I’m back with another review. Let me start by saying I’m a longtime customer of Mel’s. I remember when this place was barely known. One thing I can say for myself is that the food has always been consistent. Today, I had the biggest craving for fried catfish, and what better place than this local spot? I surfed the site to gather my order before calling so I knew exactly what I wanted. I guess I’m getting a little older because the online menu wasn’t as clear as I would’ve liked. I called in my order and the young man who answered the phone gave bad vibes off the bat. He literally answered the phone, “Hello, how may I help you?”I had to make sure it was Mel’s because he never mentioned it. I asked about the order to clear things up. For example, I couldn’t find the side orders and the sizes. He then mentioned “fries” to me, which led me to ask if they served mashed potatoes. “Of course,” he said. So, I asked for a family-size mashed potatoes with gravy on the side to go with my 16-count catfish platter. After he hung up without saying goodbye, other than “be there in 15 minutes,” I headed there to pick up my order. My order was ready on time, and the food smelled delicious. The only problem was that I got a personal side order instead of the family side I asked for. I ordered it, and the fella who took my order over the phone did so there.I still got a weird vibe from him. I’m not sure if he was just busy, but I felt pretty unappreciated as a guest. But then, the woman standing behind him gave me my family mashed potatoes with the biggest smile, and I immediately felt so much better. So, big shout out to her for saving the day. Overall, the food was great and the atmosphere was beautiful. That guy needs to cheer up; it could be worse, my friend. I recommend you go try their catfish if you haven’t.

Mel’s Country Cafe serves excellent food and has fantastic service. The ambience is that of an old-timey Texas “country cafe”. My friend and I went for lunch. I recommend you get here early; it fills up quickly. Our server Savannah brought our drinks and some hot, extremely fluffy rolls and sweet cornbread. We had a basket of delicious onion rings – cooked perfectly in a very light batter – and served with ranch dressing for dipping. We both ordered the fried catfish and fried shrimp, which was excellent. The two sides that I ordered with it were some very good cole slaw and fresh cooked green beans. My friend had fried okra and homemade mashed potatoes with gravy on the side. I ordered a dessert of chocolate cream pie. It was a rich chocolate cream in a flaky crust with whipped cream on top. It was delicious, but I had to take some home. We haven’t been here for quite some time ( not since it was rebuilt after a fire ), but we will definitely return.

Great service. Great food. Great price. This was my first time at Mel’s and let me tell you i was not disappointed. This reminds me of home cooking in Mississippi. It was delish! I also ordered the banana pudding and the peach cobbler to go. Yum! Unfortunately i ordered a plate to go for my daughter and it was not good so that took the stars down…Maybe just eat there.

We needed someplace to stop to give a three-year -old a break. How lucky we were to find Mel’s country café! The food, service and atmosphere are all amazing. And the prices make it very affordable for a family. It’s a little bit out of the way, but don’t miss this wonderful café that has been around for over 40 years.

If you ever want to have that small town love experience, then Mel’s is the place to be. Friendly staff, friendly guest, and such a loving atmosphere. There was even an older woman celebrating her birthday, looked to be in her 80s. The onion rings were some of the best I’ve ever had, along with the famous chicken fried steak. Both are absolutely amazing!

Cozy place. Good atmosphere. Got Mel’s burger with the 1 lbs of beef and 8 oz bacon. It was good but, overcooked and under seasoned. I may be a little picky but, I didn’t have time to send it back for fixing the overcooked part.
Bacon jalapeno shrimp appetizer was very good.
Please be careful parking by the road. Use the lot to the diner’s left if possible.

My wife and I have been driving past by the restaurant for over a year but never stop to eat until today, all and everything was better than expected, the food Excellent!!!! Mel’s cafe will always be one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always so amazing. You can tell it’s cooked with love! The staff are always so attentive and kind. This time around we had Savannah as our waitress and she was so great! I always feel at home when I come to eat here. 10/10 home cookin’!
