We stopped at Joy Yee on our visit to Chinatown based on the many great reviews and we were not disappointed, this was, without question, our favourite meal in Chicago so far and we’ve had many to write home about!!

The drink selection alone is incredible. We chose a Pineapple Mango with mixed jelly and a Kiwi with lychee jelly, both tasting unbelievably fresh and vibrant. Sweet, but balanced, the kind of drinks you don’t want to end.

For starters, we shared fried chicken and pork dumplings with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. Absolutely divine. Crisp, perfectly cooked and packed with flavour.

Mains were spicy shrimp chow mein and grilled short ribs over kimchi fried rice. The portions were huge, genuinely eye-opening for us coming from the UK, but the quality matched the size. Every element was bold, balanced and impeccably executed.

Special praise must go to our server. We didn’t catch her name, but she was warm, attentive and genuinely made us feel welcomed. She is a real credit to the restaurant and deserves recognition for such wonderful service.

An outstanding experience from start to finish.

We stopped in on a weeknight at prime dinner time and the place was pretty empty which should’ve been our first clue.

We ordered the chicken lo mein and crab Rangoons, both of which were good, but not the best I’ve ever had. Even average lo mein and Rangoons are still pretty good. Thank goodness for sriracha to add a little something.

The service was not particularly friendly and seemed they would have preferred we hadn’t come in. We felt it best to eat and leave quickly because the vibe was not welcoming at all.

Not worth a return when there are plenty of spots in the same strip with better food and friendly service.

The food is delicious and definitely worth eating here. Their dishes are of good size, always keep the same flavor and the drinks are very tasty and have many flavors.

The service is fast and in general the waiters are friendly.

The prices are acceptable and they have a lot of tables to offer customers.

Just keep in mind that during rush hour it is very crowded and sometimes you have to wait in line a bit and the bathrooms are not at their best when there are so many people.

It was 3. Degrees and I wanted hot tee. They do not have this item on their menu, no longer sell. Otherwise the food was good, had a lot to choose from

Great service, great menu and the food always hits the spot. Brought my family here for the first time and they loved it too.

Maybe the best service I’ve ever had a restaurant. They anticipated our wants before we even knew we wanted them. It was hot that day and boom – 2 tall glasses water almost as we sat down. The food came quickly, was authentic and delicious and reasonably priced. The bubble teas were so big they should have been a meal substitute, but so good I couldn’t stop sipping!

The service was amazing and they were very kind to serve us, the food was delicious, the only bad thing was the bathroom; it wasn’t clean.

I recently had my first experience in Chicago’s vibrant Chinatown, and it was nothing short of delightful! Though there was a bit of a wait to be seated, every moment was worth it. The food came out fresh and piping hot, and I savored some of the best orange chicken I’ve ever tasted—bursting with real orange flavor and made with quality chicken. I was so stuffed that I couldn’t indulge in the boba this time, but I’m already planning my next visit!

Just a heads-up — parking here is a pain, so plan accordingly. If you can get past that, I highly suggest showing up before the dinner rush. We walked in early and were seated almost right away, which was nice.

I really liked the vibe of the place. The decor was something many can related to, with anime characters covering the walls kind of goes well with the name.

We started with spring rolls, but they were a disappointment. They came out hard, like they’d been sitting out too long before being served. That was a bad deal right off the bat.

For drinks, my wife and niece went with boba while I ordered a strawberry kiwi smoothie — but asked for no pearls because I’m not a fan of the texture. As far as food, I kept it simple since it was my first time. I ordered the jumbo shrimp fried rice and asked to add chicken. Apparently, that was too much to ask — because the chicken never showed up. When I asked about it, the server told me they don’t allow both. That threw me off because my wife and I go to a lot of Asian restaurants, and we’ve never been told we couldn’t mix proteins before.

That kind of set the tone for the rest of the meal. The food was just okay. My wife had the shrimp udon noodles and said it was good, but nothing special. Overall, I liked the atmosphere, but I don’t know if we’ll be back to Joy Yee any time soon.

Place looks really good and has a lot of variety but my experience was not good. The pork dumplings were great a five star, the vermicellis was not good at all, meats are really chewy and it did not taste good, chicken or beef. The thai tea with tapioca tasted like water. Good atmosphere, but would not go back.
