We ordered a full lobster (our first time in Maine, so we had to!) and the seafood pie, and both were incredible — so fresh and full of flavor. I also tried an Irish coffee, which was delicious, though a bit strong for my taste — but that’s just personal preference! Prices weren’t cheap, but the quality, service, and experience made it totally worth it.
Overall, Geddy’s was a highlight of our trip — warm, busy, full of good food and friendly faces. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting Bar Harbor!
A definite must order is the steamed lobster — it is so juicy but still melts from the shell. The buttery sauce complement’s the lobster’s natural sweetness and makes each bite heavenly.
The clam chowder is also a recommended order since it is a balanced appatiser that whets the appetite.
The star of our meal though, was the blueberry pie. The cream is thick but not cloying and the additional ice cream mellows the tart-sweet richness of the blueberry compote. Paradise.
– Food: average to slightly above average. We had the fried calamari and Brussell sprouts which were both decent. Neither were great. We also had the tuna poke which was very good. We also had a blueberry infused beer which was good.
– Service: Was excellent. Wait staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. No pressure. No issues.
– The place itself: Fun, not too noisy. It appears to be a great place to sit at the bar, have a few drinks, and socialize. We had no problems talking or being overwhelmed by noise.
I’d recommend it but don’t expect to be wowed by the food.
We had a similar culinary “plot twist” a few years ago (also in Maine) with oysters. We tried baked oysters for the first time and realized that, no, oysters don’t only have to be consumed raw to be world-class.
This time, it happened with the lobster. As Italians, we naturally have a bit of cultural resistance to classifying a sandwich as a main course—and even more resistance to the idea of putting a delicacy like lobster inside a bun.
But guys… the Geddy’s Maine Lobster Roll is a game-changer.
It will twist everything you believed about seafood before you even finish the first bite. It is absolutely incredible. If you think you know lobster, try this and think again.
One piece of advice: If you are planning to be in Bar Harbor, plan a visit to Geddy’s—but make a reservation in advance. If you can, book it a couple of weeks ahead. If you don’t, be prepared to wait at least an hour (or more) to get a seat! It’s worth the wait, but better to be prepared.
