Very nice ambiance in the restaurant. The food was good and I believe what I had you needed to order the rice separately. I enjoyed a great time with friends while we ate. I love that you have a choice of an English or Spanish menu. You’ll see that a lot in Mexico. Overall, it’s a nice place to go for a bite.

Service is top notch. Very friendly. Extremely accommodating. Most speak English, some not as well but I can’t knock that as Spanish is the language here after all.

The atmosphere of this place is super nice. Very cool decor and mood. Very nice for a romantic date in my opinion.

For a drink I ordered the passion fruit juice. I’ll say it’s VERY natural so if you’re expecting something a little sweet you’ll have to do as I did and ask for some sugar on the side.

For food I ordered the shrimp entree and my wife ordered the fish. She loved hers. Mine was very tasty BUT. I felt like for 400+ pesos it wasn’t enough. It was literally around 6 pieces of shrimp and some squash (squash was amazing though). I felt it was missing a carb and I literally went to to buy pizza after which is frustrating after paying a decent amount for a meal.

Overall, lots of good but don’t expect big portions for every entree. You’re paying for atmosphere which is fine but I prefer a balance between value and mood.

Came here 3 times during our trip. Our favs were the juice of the day, the green juice, guac, and the chilaquiles!! Every item is so good and the place is gorgeous too. Just get there early if you don’t want to wait (wait is never TOO long though).

Great vibe and friendly staff but the food quality is very mediocre. Portions are big, and every Mexican dish can easily serve two people. The restaurant smells like fried oil and overall it wasn’t a special or great experience. Wouldn’t recommend.

You should start your breakfast at La Cueva with a concha. These are the best conchas you will ever have. Their house green juice (chaya and pineapple) is refreshing – and tasty its good for you. Whether you get chilaquiles or eggs, know that the food is excellent. The salsas are flavorful and a great complement to your meal. Also if you’re a coffee drinker, the coffee is great and pairs really well with the conchas. Don’t forget to bring your bug spray. This is a place I’ve come to every time I’m in Playa, multiple times per trip. Over the course of four years, quality is consistent. It’s always my last breakfast before heading home from vacation. Service is consistently excellent. Everyone on staff is so nice and helpful, and they speak English if you don’t have a handle on your Spanish. If you want a nice breeze, sit in their leafy junglesque patio. It can get busy it you don’t get there before 9am.

Been excited to try this place for a few years and while it’s a cute outdoor eating experience, I would probably not go back.
Service felt so underwhelming. I thought it was so funny how hard it was to order when it’s such a hot spot. We speak both English and Spanish and you would think we spoke Chinese when trying to order. The waiter stared at me looking very lost. Also the man with the breads went to everyone in our little area and skipped our table. When I asked for straws the guys said “no” then he said “are they for the kids” and I said “yes” and he said “ok”. Keep in mind they are heavy glass cups so maybe bring a sippy cup if you have a little kid. Another waiter brought a 2nd receipt and said they missed a piece of bread on our receipt and I said “perdón” because they totally skipped our table Anyways he came to the wrong table.

The juices, chilaquiles, and oatmeal were very good but also very fancy with a bunch of seeds and pretty decor. I know a lot of people like this shmancy type of places however imo this is definitely not 5 ⭐️s.

We paid $1400 pesos for a family with 3 kids.

What a stunner of a place! Have been to PDC countless times but never checked out this place until my local friend suggested it. You know it must be good when the locals go there to eat. Best chilaquiles I have ever eaten. Very generous portion sizes. Service was a bit slow and the coffees are average but the atmosphere and quality of chilaquiles makes this worth the repeat visit.

I was really excited to try this restaurant on my trip because it looks beautiful and is outdoors. Unfortunately, as somebody else mentioned, there were miscommunications between me and the staff, even though they spoke English. The food was nice, but nothing unusual.

La Cueva del Chango has a unique jungle-like atmosphere surrounded by greenery. The menu offers authentic Mexican dishes, fresh juices. Food was a good but a little bit pricier than other restaurants in Playa del Carmen. There were a few things from the menu not available at that time.
