Sooo good! Came here with my family, and we ordered the mutton curry, chicken curry, chicken kottu roti, as well as some of their veggie and meat rolls. Delicious!! Though some was a little too spicy for my mother, she still found everything to be very tasty. Drinks were great too (a mango lassi, and two passion fruit juices). Service was so welcoming and lovely thanks to the owner, Viji. Makes me wish I had another stomach. We left very dated and with an order of dosa 🙂

We ended up stopping by and found this little gem. We spoke to the owner who was very kind and accomodating. She quickly fried us some shorteats and it was pretry good. We tried the egg fish rolls and the brought home some goodies (cutlets, veg roti and malu paan). They also have rice and curry menu too and kotthu. Didnt get a chance to try the kotthu. However we tried the rice/fish. With this you can select other vergetable dishes you like that they had made for the day. Recemmend anyone who is in the area to try this authentic srilanka restaurant. Also it was Halal. Which was a main thing for us.

Had the privilege to meet Mrs. Viji and try her incredible cooking last week.
I’ve never tried Sri Lankan food, but I have to say, the Coconut Rice and Goat Curry would be present at my last meal after dining at New Asha.
My buddy and I gave her the free pass to keep bringing food out until we told her to stop. She did not disappoint. Breads, Chutneys, Curries galore. It was a wonderful culinary experience.
I stopped in while traveling because I read an article Bourdain posted a number of years back and had it on my list. Mrs. Viji told me a little of what he was like, which was a surreal experience, because she was working when he came.
This place should be on everyone’s road map. Take the 20 minute walk from the Ferry and enjoy the meal of a lifetime.

Great food—our fourth Sri Lankan restaurant on Staten Island. The owner, however, was overly enthusiastic about our order size. We planned on two dishes, but she insisted we start with one. After we finished, she questioned whether we were full when we tried to order the second. Not sure if it’s because we look like light eaters or if she’s just too friendly. If you are very hungry, be prepared for this interaction.

Everything about our experience was AMAZING. The food was ridiculously good, as in I’m going to be dreaming of it for days afterwards and viji was so kind and welcoming! When we asked for her recommendations she was ready to make us the perfect plate with a little mix of everything.

We visited New Asha in Staten Island last Friday, and it was hands down one of the most heartwarming dining experiences we’ve ever had. The owner and hostess, Viji, was absolutely wonderful she welcomed us like family, made sure we were comfortable, and even treated us to extra dishes out of pure generosity. Her warmth made the whole experience feel like having dinner at a loved one’s home.
The food was incredible! The chicken kottu was bursting with flavor so good that even my husband, who’s usually not a fan of chicken, couldn’t stop eating it. The dhal vada were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside, packed with authentic spice and aroma. And the egg rotties were unbelievably soft, fluffy, and comforting each bite reminded us of true homemade Sri Lankan cooking.
Everything about New Asha feels personal and genuine from the love in the food to the kindness in Viji’s service. If you’re looking for authentic Sri Lankan flavors and heartfelt hospitality, this is the place to go. We left with full hearts and full stomachs, already planning our next visit. ❤️

Being a Sri Lankan myself I can assure you, you can’t expect anything more. Aunty Viji and her sis-in-law makes sure that you’re being treated in the most hospitable way and you’re being poured out with so much love and generosity for what you pay. I think that’s what most special about this place. It’s not just about the amazing food it’s also everything else about that place. 2 of us from our group there were from KS, but I was wishing I could take aunty Viji to KS with me cuz she felt like home. I loooooved all the food I ate there and she even made us chai though it wasn’t in the menu. (She does that to the special customers ) I’ve added all the pics I took of the food and aunty Viji and her sis in law as well. රසම රසයි. ரொம்ப ருசி

If one looks for authentic home cooked Sri Lankan food, this is the place. The woman behind the counter (I assume she is the owner ) helps you out to make sure what you are looking for is met.
The food definitely reminded me of what I ate at home and absolutely carry the deliciousness of home cooked food.
The place is unassuming and very clean.
The day’s buffet is laid out in the counter. The owner will help you out with her friendly service to explain what is on offer each day and also will ask what your level of tolerance for spicy food.
With regard to drinks try out their passion fruit juice or if you have a sweet tooth the Sri Lankan Faluda!
This is the place for ultimate home cooked food in New York and the place makes all it worth to ride on the boat from Manhattan to Staten Island.

Easily the best roti I’ve had. Warm, chewy, fresh off the griddle. Got the fish curry over rice which was decent. the fish was a little tough, not super tender. I’ve been doing more solo days lately, treating myself out. This one ended with a mango lassi that really hit.
