The mussels were the highlight of our visit. We had never tried mussels prepared in a creamy tomato based sauce before, but this unique approach worked beautifully. The sauce was rich yet balanced and complemented the natural briny flavor of the mussels without overpowering them. The Tom Collins added a bright citrus note that helped cut through the creaminess and kept the dish feeling fresh and satisfying.
Access from the parking garage was simple thanks to clear signage directing guests to a first floor entrance. Entering this way made it easy to find the restaurant, though locating the host stand inside was slightly challenging due to the busy and crowded atmosphere. Once we found it, we were seated quickly and the service felt smooth despite the lively environment.
The space features an industrial railroad rustic design with a subtle speakeasy influence that adds character and warmth. It was fairly loud, but in an energetic and social way, and we were still able to enjoy a comfortable conversation across the table.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable visit and look forward to returning. During the summer months its location near the Levitt makes it an ideal spot to relax with food and drinks while still enjoying the music.
Updated to my previous review. Went back and had bad service all around. Came up to the host stand. I think we waited about three minutes before being sat, which is weird because the place was dead servers bartenders. Everyone was just watching the game. I was sat at the booth next to the bar and I had two people actually touch my table with their hand, not saying anything or asking us anything. We waited probably 15 minutes before we could even do our drink order. The only people in the restaurant a few people at the bar. I was finally able to order off the menu. I would say the The cheeseboard was good. The presentation was kind of crazy with the crackers in the bowl. The fried mushrooms were terrible. We could not get the taste out of our mouth. It was definitely a zero out of 10. The risotto was good. The salmon was good. However, I’m giving the food still three stars because although the presentation wasn’t good for the cheeseboard, it was a good choice. I previously had had their oysters and they are the best I’ve had in town.
Original review – had an absolutely amazing experience here the first time I came My bartender, Kate, was phenomenal. She was personable, chatty, and genuinely engaging. I really appreciated the conversation while sitting at the bar. It was my first time here, and great service goes such a long way.
I ordered a couple drinks from their cocktail menu and was super impressed with the presentation everything looked beautiful and tasted just as good. I also ordered the oysters and was impressed by the size and how fresh they were. On top of that, I got to try the $10 burger, which was so good and absolutely worth ordering. (Rate oysters here best downtown)
Appetizer and Entree – decided to go with the old reliable KC Hog Wings which comes with pickled onions and also cucumber. Goes well with either ranch or blue cheese dip. I have had this dish numerous times at the first location on 69th St and also at the new location downtown in the Steel District. The flavor and tenderness of the meat is always…on point. Cooking hog wings is tricky since you can easily overcook the meat but they have it perfected. We have also tried the Rose Burger – you wouldn’t think that friend onions and bacon jam would go great together but they pulled it off. One other food item that we have tried was the Steak Alfredo. The medium rare steak was done to perfection.
Drinks – Two fun cocktails that we tried -The Blush Bubbles and the Jack Rose. Both are fun drinks to watch as the server delivers the drink to your table. You almost don’t want to drink it. Wide selection of beers on tap. Shiner Bock was our choice. If you are looking for a dark beer such as Guinness, they do have it available in can.
PROS
– Large and diverse menu
– Great appetizer options if you are looking to have a light meal
– Good tap beer selection
– Great outdoor seating. Love the fireplace
– Located downtown in the Steel District which is within walking distance to the Falls
CONS
– Not a huge con but parking is limited so I would recommend parking on Phillips Ave.
Overall a great experience. I work at a restaurant downtown as well and I know how difficult it can be in the beginning- you guys are killing it!
