A hidden gem! Google reviews made us stop here while passing through and I’m thankful we did. The food is delicious, chips and salsa top tier. I only needed one margarita and it did the job. I had to ask if it was family owned and sure enough it is, you can taste the love this business has through their food. 10/10!

Sometimes we pick places that aren’t a chain and this was great pick. We went in there before the dinner crowd so it was quiet which we didn’t mind. The food was excellent. We had chicken nachos which was right amount for the two of us. Will definitely go back!

This place is truly unlike any other in Mesa. From one small business owner to another, I can honestly say that Marina Carbajal has created something really special here. Not only is the food absolutely amazing, authentic, and made with care, but the way everyone is treated—customers and staff alike—speaks volumes about the heart behind this restaurant.

I’ve been here multiple times, and every visit has been consistent: fast service, attentive staff, and a hands-on approach that makes you feel genuinely welcomed. The waitresses are friendly, upbeat, and you can tell they truly love where they work—and that energy carries through the entire place.

One of my favorite experiences was getting the chance to sit down for a meal and a few drinks with Marina and the staff at closing time. We laughed, talked, and shared stories like we’d known each other for years. That kind of warmth and connection is rare, and it’s exactly why this restaurant stands out.

If you’re looking for incredible food, great service, and an owner who pours her heart into her business, this is the place. Highly recommend supporting this gem. ❤️ ️

I tried this place for the first time and the food was so good. I ordered the bean and cheese chimi with green enchilada sauce, plus rice and beans on the side. The total for a single to-go plate was $23, and honestly, at first the price almost scared me off. But once I tasted it, I LOVED it. I can’t eat very much, so my husband and his best friend split the rest and they both loved it too. The refried beans especially were top notch.

I’m giving 4 stars mainly because wow… this place is expensive. Also, while I was waiting for my to-go order, I noticed the to-go couple before me was offered chips and salsa, but I wasn’t. Maybe they were regulars. I was there earlier than dinner time, and most of the customers seemed like long-timers. Still, it would’ve been nice to be offered the same.

All that said, I’m really glad I tried this place. I actually discovered it because I love Lucky Dealz next door. The food here is genuinely delicious, and despite the price, I can definitely see why people keep coming back.

It’s not a sit down and be served type restaurant. I had to order at the bar. Then sat down at a table to wait. So this is more a step up from like fast food type service. I hope I explained that correctly.

Even though the price is high, the food is good enough that we still plan to go back, just probably to share a plate next time. We’re not low income; we’re more middle-to-higher income, so the fact that even we felt the price was steep says a lot.

But the quality really does make it worth returning.

We came after a quick search for Mexican food near us. The food was yummy, quick and a lot. We took about half of each meal home. The atmosphere was nice with music and it was very clean. The chips and salsa were an excellent start to the meal. Our server was exceptional – she loves her job and it showed as she was the only one working for all the tables.

There is a reason this place has been around for 35 years. The food is freaking amazing, and the staff is fun to talk with. I highly recommend. I’ve been here for 7 years, and haven’t found a better place. If you have a large group, do call ahead. They do not take reservations, and they can be quite popular Thursday through sunday.

The people working there, especially our young server, were warm, welcoming, and made sure we had a great experience.

The margaritas were tasty, but the food undeniably some of the best Mexican I’ve had in years. I had the chicken tacos and husband had the carne asada plate. We could barely finish. The guacamole was yum. The salsa nice kick with all the spices you would hope.

I’ll miss this place when we go home. I’d be a regular.

We were craving authentic Mexican so took the drive to this little place. Arrived about 8pm. The location was for sure a turn off, inside a mostly dark, rundown, plaza with everything around it closed. Food though was AMAZING and so were the margaritas. I guess I expected a little bit more estethetic but was ok. It is definitely family owned as the little kids were sitting at the bar, and one child kept running up to our table when ordering, even got us a refill of chips (he had to be 6-7) etc. A bit of a turn off when dining and definitely can come across as unprofessional but the food was absolutely awesome and staff was friendly.

My wife and I are from NM and are kinda Mexican food snobs. We searched for something close to home and found Carbajal’s. It’s tucked away in a strip mall/shopping center that has mostly closed. We walked in and were immediately greeted by Shakira. She was the only server working at the time and was killing it. Genuinely one of the sweetest young ladies you’ll ever meet. She is the niece of the owner, Marina and family. Marina came and greeted us as well. She is the Tia everyone wants. Now the food.
I judge Mexican food restaurants by their rellenos. Around my neighborhood had been mostly eggy; almost like a dang omelet wrapping a chile. Nope; I was back in NM when is saw and ate their rellenos. Whether Shakira, Marina, or the rest of the family likes it; they are stuck with us as customers. Thank you and your family for such a wonderful experience. Food, service, cleanliness, atmosphere was amazing.
