A great spot for coffee and a little work. The kids’ “nook” was a great idea and appreciated. Even though it’s also a bookstore, it was not too quiet to have a conversation – with a person or on your phone/buds.

Church Street Coffee & Books in Mountain Brook is one of those places that instantly feels like home. Nestled in Crestline Village, it combines the comfort of a neighborhood coffee shop with the charm of a small independent bookstore. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with cozy seating areas, shelves lined with books, and a relaxed upstairs loft that’s perfect for reading or getting some work done.
The coffee is consistently solid — smooth, flavorful, and crafted with care. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic latte, a cappuccino, or just a simple drip coffee, it hits the spot. But the real star of the show is the famous Breakup Cookie. Warm, gooey, and perfectly balanced with chocolate and a hint of sea salt, it’s easily one of the best cookies in the Birmingham area.

Hard to beat a bookstore coffee shop! This is a cozy little one in the middle of Crestline Village with nooks to hide everywhere. They serve Nonfiction Coffee and have a good menu including the famous breakup cookie. Spot for kids to read & draw, a 2nd story that’s always quiet, and nice little patio space. Staff has always been very nice every time I visit as well. Today just got a black coffee and flavorful.

I am grateful for Church Street. I don’t consume dairy or gluten by choice, and my preferred sweet treats include their Cowboy Cookie, Chia Oat Bar, and Sunrise Cookie – don’t get me cake on my birthday – hand me a box of all of these and I am over the moon. The staff are always hospitable and engaging, the atmosphere is cozy, and their books are easy to dive into. Keep it up, Church Street.

I had a dirty chai tea latte, a little sweet but great taste. The baked goods were delicious, I tried 3 different ones. Staff were friendly and the place is really cute in a nice part of town.

This is a charming little coffee cum bookshop. And gels very well with the vibe of this neighborhood. It has limited sitting inside and outside.

I’d give it five stars just for THE Breakup Cookie. A delicious, perfectly crispy yet chewy, luscious blend of rich dark chocolate and sea salt, it’s definitely one of the best cookies in Birmingham. Worth a trip if you’ve never been, and I’m sure the coffee is just wonderful but that’s not why I go

Hazelnut cappuccino was delicious, just enough sweetness. The breakup cookie was alright. More outdoor seating would be really nice but they did have some comfy chairs on the side.

That breakup cookie is worth ALL the hype, it was delicious Great little place, you can’t go wrong with books and coffee. The Treehugger granola bar was also really good! It was a little hard to find at night if, like me, you’re not familiar with the area but it is a drive I do not regret! There’s a reason this place is on a bunch of ‘Things to do in Birmingham’ lists!
