I mean.. Idk. The menu is like being at the ballpark. The atmosphere was fine. Typical bar hang out setting. We stopped while visiting Ruston. They have live music, if you like that.

We arrived around 8:30 PM and ordered drinks. At approximately 8:45 PM, we asked about placing a food order and were told that the grill closed at 9:00 PM, we felt bad trying to order food so late but the server said she would check with the kitchen to be sure it would be okay.
At 8:55 PM, the server returned and we let her know we were ready to order-about $50 worth of sandwiches only, specifically to keep it simple and minimize impact on the kitchen given the time.
At 9:01 PM, a manager approached our table and informed us that the kitchen was actually already closed and that we would not be receiving food.
Unfortunately, the interaction was handled in a very rude and dismissive manner.

I just want to preface this by mentioning that Heather is an amazing server, and makes the best tartar sauce I’ve had in my life. Kudos, and props.

Sundown is, I suspect, the tavernest place in Ruston. It lends itself to good music and entertainment, local and national brews on tap, and some really good catfish. It’s divided between an inside area (with a bar, pool, and indoor seating) and an outdoors patio that’s super chill to hang around in cool autumn days.

I got two of the local IPAs on tap: Ghost in the Machine and Dr. Juice. With names like those, how could I say no? Coupled with the catfish and fries, and amazing service, it was an amazing dinner.

Consistently a 4 star for me over the past 20 years (though occasionally a 3) even with new ownership. Seems to always be some great things and some could use improvement things… but here is an updated menu for 2025 reposted from their facebook page; since I was looking – thought you may be too!

Sundown is my go to quick spot in Ruston. I order the same thing every time. (They have an awesome burger selection, that includes the veggie burger) Service varies depending on time and events, but my experience has either always been good or resolved! Ruston has a college, so the environment definitely caters to them or the locals in the area. Definitely go to enjoy the patio when the weather is nice or when they have live performances. You’ll be sure to enjoy!

Fried pickles and green beans are fine. Probably will never order from here again, though. Burnt loaded fries and the saddest wings I’ve seen in recent history.

As a Ruston local, I am so happy with how amazing Sundown Tavern is after reopening with NEW owners! While now boasting spotless floors and grime-free walls, Sundown has not lost any of its classic atmosphere we all love. The food was so delicious and served by the friendliness and most attentive staff. The turkey melt was absolutely AMAZING, and the fried green beans were as delicious as I remember. If you are looking for a cool spot in Ruston to hang out and catch up with friends at the bar, or even just a place to unwind after work with the family out on the patio, this is the place to go. Beyond happy to have a classic Ruston spot back and better than it ever has been before!

Great food and great people. Everything is on the menu and all of it is delicious. You won’t regret going. Also some days they have live music.

So today is 02/25/2022 I’m updating my review. I will not be coming back here ever again. I was told I had to pay $5 just to order my food. I was told to order at the bar. But didn’t know if I need to go sit back down at my table or wait at the bar. I was yelled at by a man that worked here that I needed to move. The bartenders had an attitude and were rude to me. It was embarrassing, because I had family in town just wanting to order some food. And when are food came out it was the wrong food. I really love this place. But I’m so sad now. I will not be treated like this ever again.

Cool tavern with an outdoor courtyard, inside bar, and table sitting in the front. The fried green beans were delicious and at $7, a huge bargain! Bar area has one pool table and a couple tables to sit at. Small stage for a band.
