Not only is the staff amazing but the food is top notch. Me and my date had the mussels in wine sauce (definitely a must try), the grilled romaine salad, the black rice and oxtails, and the lamb shank. Additionally we enjoyed the mussels in wine sauce so much we lamented the lack of bread, which then came to our table promptly and free of charge! The cocktails were also amazing and not too sweet. The wine list featured South African wines which is a personal favorite, and paired perfectly with our dishes. The staff also staggered our food so we could enjoy a cocktail in the beginning, the muscles and salad with a South African white wine, and a South African red wine with our main dishes of oxtail and lamb.
The owner and his wife’s love and care shines through the restaurant and can be clearly seen in their cooking. The effort they put into the menu, the training they provide their staff, and the time they take to personally speak with their customers is truly admirable. I sincerely hope this business succeeds and becomes a Winchester favorite!
The husband and wife restauranteers have combined their worldliness and their fine tuned culinary palettes to produce an excellent one of a kind experience. Food, original art, lighting, lively and attentive staff, designer accents, and brilliantly inventive food top all expectations!
The food? Absolutely outstanding. The salmon, paired with buckwheat vinaigrette, arugula, and goat cheese, was light, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. The lamb chops, cooked to a perfect medium, were tender and seasoned to perfection. Every bite was rich and satisfying! To top it all off, we were treated to a complimentary hibiscus lemonade, which was as refreshing as it was thoughtful; a perfect, colorful addition to a flawless meal.
From start to finish, Bistro SOJO delivered an unforgettable evening. Great food, great people, and an atmosphere that makes you feel like family. We’ll definitely be back!
The service was great – the server was polite and professional, and at least one of the owners stopped by to thank us for visiting and answering questions about the restaurant.
I got the Mezze Platter as an appetizer and Oxtails for the entree. No lie, it was expensive. It was also *very* good. Honestly, delightful. I’m going to remember that for a long while.
From the pleasurable welcome by the managing staff to the quaint ambience attached to both the atmosphere and meal, SOJO is hit!
While taking in the comfortable historic nature of progressive Winchester on brick side walks, along historical building architecture, you will notice that SOJO is already part of the town. A few tiny steps and you are surrounded by the warmth of design. The bones of the building were not taken away but embraced and given a touch up with a Mediterranean yet tropical feel. The walls displayed fascinating artwork, clearly hand painted, quite the touch, while given their own showcase being laid deep into the wall. And for those who enjoy an experience in the restroom, do not forget to look up as you are whisked away in whimsy and joy of flamingos wading above your head.
Now, for the delights! Each course is exceptional and unique. You will not find two of the same kind of dish on this menu and yet each course blends with the next. The ingredients and flavors are so fresh that one bite can transport you to the sea salt coasts of the East. Refreshing and divine are the flavors of the cocktails. One drink rises to meet them all, Muddy Waters. So smooth and aromatic, it is no surprise it was awarded the best taste if Winchester this year.
The staff is gentle and clever. Each person is full of life, experience, and inspiration. The owner’s are engaging and delightful. The executive chef, also an owner, is spirited and loving which is evident in each dish.
We enjoyed our time with SOJO, twice now. And we look forward to partaking in their selections for the coming spring and summer months.
I do recommend making reservations well in advance. Your hopes for a walk-in on social days will be dashed.
Thank you, SOJO. An excellent experience for our anniversary.
Cheers!

Every dish is crafted with care, full of incredible flavors, and beautifully presented. And whatever you do, don’t leave without trying the olive oil cake — it was one of my absolute favorites and an unforgettable finish to an already amazing meal.
If you’re in Winchester, you simply cannot miss Bistro SoJo. Make a reservation while you can because this place books up fast — and for good reason. An absolute must-visit!
