It was raining on and off that day so when the rain stopped, Ben showed us around to see the fruit trees and cacao. Then Robin entertained us while Ben set up the fruit and chocolate sampling.
There are definitely fruit that we had never tried before like the finger lime, Mamey sapote. Everything was good to try and we really appreciated trying new fruit and the information.
They offer the chocolates and dried fruit for sale at the end of the tour. They didn’t expect us to buy anything but we all got stuff that we were interested in buying. Their chocolate bars are very decently priced and very tasty.
There is also a store and a coffee truck close to the tour that can be visited before or after the tour. Also this tour is across the lot from Anaina Hou Community Park which hosts a lot of events.
Robin and Ben are great people and we can see their business being very successful in the future. They are super down to earth and passionate about what they do. We realized later in the day we forgot to try the noni juice! Another reason to come back and do this tour again! 🙂
The property is easily seen from the road and it has a convenient left turn lane if you’re coming from the south. There is an amazing coffee shop next door (get a hot cacao latte), and a few other businesses as well.
The tour starts under a tent, but you are eventually guided through the property where you will sample or smell fresh produce that is removed directly from the plant in front of you. This is a working farm, so you will be walking through grass paths. Don’t wear your best white sneakers and you should be fine as long as you don’t have severe mobility challenges.
It was truly impressive to see things growing that I was familiar with (turmeric, vanilla, lychee, etc.), but had no idea how they are grown. My mind was further blown by sampling berries that I had no idea existed- like a fascinating acorn squash-shaped cherry and also berries that taste just like cotton candy.
They also make chocolate from the cocoa pods that they grow. We learned how craft chocolate is made on both a small and a larger scale, and we were lucky enough that the fruit was ripe so we were able to try the fresh flesh. It was very moreish.
The tour ended with a sampling of even more produce from their farm, most of which I had I idea existed prior to this tour. Ulu (breadfruit), eggfruit, caviar lime, soursop and too many others for my brain to remember were offered in very agreeable amounts. There is another company that offers a similar, but more $$$ tour, where the reviews mentioned how disappointed they were with the sample sizes they got. This is not a problem at Jungle Oasis. I did not eat breakfast and I left there full, and she still had leftover fruit.
The fruit sampling was followed by a chocolate sampling. This concluded the 2.5 hour tour, and we had the opportunity to buy some of the chocolate that they make themselves. I waited for the other group to buy what they wanted, then I bought the rest.
Ultimately this was one of the top activities that we did on our trip. It was nice and low-key. Robin, the owner and our host, is a total sweetheart and gave an intimate and authentic presentation. She was able to answer our questions and share so much more than we could have ever hoped for. I don’t often have the the urge to hug someone I just met when I say good bye, but it was strong when we were leaving.
This tour and Robin are a hidden gem on Kaua’i. So if you like eating and learning about food, this tour is a must-do and we hope to come back in the future.
They were incredibly welcoming and such generous hosts for the couple hours we were there.
My gardening and foodie heart felt right at home in a new place!
Robin & Ben are so sweet and knowledgeable, they made us all feel so at home on their beautiful farm.
I learned a lot about the trees and other plants they have growing, and got to try some interesting tropical fruit I had never eaten before, which was delicious!!
They provided local refreshments and treats afterward too (sourced both from their farm and others close by) which was so nice; yummy chai, hibiscus tea, fruit, chocolate, honey and more!
I highly recommend checking out the Kilauea Jungle Oasis on your visit to Kaua’i, or even if you live here.
Anyone who loves nature, plants, fruit and learning with enjoy it!
I would definitely go on the tour again, I know I would learn something new!
