The ladies that work here are absolutely the friendliest people and they make the best pies around! We ordered a gluten-free apple pie and it was the most delicious apple pie I’ve ever had in my life!! The crust was perfection and the apple filling was divine.

Little old country store that has been open for 75 years. Know for home made pies, they have a nice variety by the slice or whole pie. We had Angus burger and pumpkin milkshake. Very tasty. Stopped here after going to Morris Orchard.

Wow! One of the most memorable and surprisingly pleasant lunch meetings in my entire life.

My wife, Carol and I were traveling through Southwest Virginia last week to visit a few insurance agency partners. On our route was Agricola Insurance Agency in Monroe Virginia owned by Brian Thacker.

Brian suggested we meet at Woodruff’s Cafe and Pie Shop for lunch. After an hour or so drive from our last stop through beautiful rural foothills, our GPS guided us to a small country store like structure in a place we learned is called Agricola.

Brian was one of a few cars parked out front and was waiting to escorte inside The Pie Shop.

Immediately, I began to realize this was no ordinary Pie Shop. There were five small wooden tables that seated four, a very old cash register from a generation before me, framed journal artcles, awards, and paintings of people that I learned, after our meal, were part of this magical capsule of family and cultural heritage.

I found myself gazing around the walls, as if spell bound by familiar American cornerstones of media and society. It was time to order.

Carol mentioned that all the food was made from scratch daily! She ordered a Turkey Provolone sandwich; I chose the Chicken Salad cold plate with fresh homemade Pimento Cheese.

My unsweetened tea was brought to me from the nearby refrigerator in a half gallon jug and poured into my glass, as my grandmother would have done 40 years ago.

The homemade food and drink was delicious. Normally we do not order desert, but I do not know how anyone can visit Woodruff’s Cafe and Pie Shop without eating some made daily fresh homemade Pie! We all shared the Key Lime–my taste buds will forever be spoiled!

After meeting the current owner, Angie and her older sister Darnell, Carol and I spent the next 30 minutes learning about the amazing history and heritage of this family establishment. The experience will remain with us forever; how we unknowingly by chance, had lunch prepared and served by a family who for generations served many their homemade daily food and pies in their small five table magical Cafe.

We were among many with much higher staus that felt the tingle of historical culture and pride. From the Today Show, Al Roka made the visit, enjoyed a great meal with pie and shared stories about the Lady who started it all–who was 103 years young at the time and still working! The Wall Street Journal raised a mention with an article story, Southern Living experienced and informed the essence of perhaps one of the most rooted, honest, and real moments of southern life.

There is more–much more that I enjoyed and felt and will continue to remember during our lunch meeting that day in Agicola Virginia.

Thank you Brian for choosing Woodruff’s Cafe and Pie Shop for our Lunch stop. Thank you Angie, Darnell, Staff and Family for a truly magical moment in Agricola.

My husband and I had lunch at ~Woodruff’s Store: Cafe and Pie Shop~ and we were ever so pleased! The food was delicious and the pie was… Oh-my-goodness-amazing!
The sandwiches were made on fresh bread, mine was a smoked turkey provolone, which was extra flavorful. My husband had the chicken salad sandwich and it was just as delicious!
Now, let me get to the best part ( in my opinion) the desert! The pies were absolutely incredible, good to the last mouth-watering drop. I’ve attached pictures. If you haven’t tried this cafe, you have no idea what you’re missing. It’s a small, lovely, unique, place with a very friendly staff and atmosphere.

When I am craving pie and think about how pie should taste, I think of pie with this level of quality. I tried the caramel apple and pumpkin pies and they were terrific. You can tell that each is high quality so I would expect the same from all their other pies as well. I also enjoy their sandwiches.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere inside is cute and cozy.

Oh boy, what a treat this cute little pie shop was!! My wife and I were staying at the nearby KOA and heard about this pie shop, and wow it did not disappoint.

We tried their caramel apple pie 10/10 and I don’t usually like apple pie. So good.
We also tried their buttermilk 8/10 and blueberry 10/10, the buttermilk pie was so refreshing and recommended by one of the workers, very light and tasty.
The blueberry pie was so dang good, one of the best if not the best blueberry pie I have ever had.

They also serve lunch, which we didn’t get a chance to try but did try their potato salad which was like a flavor punch in the mouth! So so good.

This is the type of place I love to eat at and visit, as it is family owned and operated and they have a wonderful rich history on the land.

Well worth a drive out, make a day of it!

Very welcoming environment and great conversation with owners. The pies are delicious, especially the blueberry and lemon Meringue… Or maybe the sweet potato or the pecan or apple! Lots of family history at this location and awesome story of there beginnings. I will definitely be back and will be trying other menu items because… I guess you have to eat something other than pies.
