Great night out and first time visiting Hugo’s Mexican Grill & Cantina The gorditas were hot, tasty and seasoned just right. Service was quick and with a smile.

I had the pineapple fajitas and 10/10! Husband had the Gordita plate and also delicious! But our waitress is what made my time there so wonderful. She was absolutely incredible! Thank you sweet lady for just being you and kind!

Best enchiladas I’ve had in some time (I travel to multiple Mexican places, and these were top notch) .. the drink specials nice.. THE BAD?! SEATING.. The booths were like rock hard. We moved to the bar to sit in some type of comfort… it was better but not by much. I would suggest they get new seating because everything else is amazing.

Visited from Chicago, Tacos al carbón are AMAZING! Freshly made tortilla, the hot sauce is delicious. Amazing food! Service was ok, the lady was a bit serious and disconnected. But still did her job. Definitely worth eating here!

We recently tried Hugo’s, a newer Mexican restaurant in Red Oak. With so many Mexican food options in Red Oak and Ellis County, we were curious to see how it stacked up.

I ordered the combo fajitas, and while they weren’t bad, they didn’t quite stand out either—solidly average. The chips and salsa followed suit—fine, but nothing that left a lasting impression. The real highlight, though, was the service. The staff was friendly and attentive, which made for an enjoyable dining experience.

While Hugo’s might not have wowed us on this visit, it’s definitely worth checking out to see if it’s your style. With so much competition in the area, I’m not sure it will become one of our regular spots, but for those who love exploring new restaurants, it’s worth a try!

Great Service – Huge Menu – Large Portions but most of all Exceptional Food !!!
I had the Mini Tacos which were far from mini and tasted outstanding – wife had the Chicken Breast which must have come from an enormous chicken.
The chips were fresh & the salsa was great.
Thank You for a Great Meal at Fair Prices !!

Let me start by saying that I genuinely love Hugo’s and the food BUT MAKE SURE THEY GIVE YOU THE CORRECT HAPPY HOUR DEAL! My experience tonight was extremely disappointing, mainly due to the way the manager handled a very simple issue.
My husband and I came in for happy hour and ordered margaritas specifically because the menu lists them at $8.99 with $2 off meaning $6.99. He even said in front of the waitress, “Oh wow, $2 off margaritas, let’s do it!”
Our server was new, which we completely understood. She was doing her best, and we had no complaints with her. The problem began when our check showed $11.59 per margarita, which is higher than the regular price even before the happy hour discount.
When we asked about it, the server checked with the manager and came back saying we were charged for large margaritas. We never asked for large, we asked for the happy hour margarita.
I requested to speak with the manager. She came to the table, but instead of listening or trying to understand the situation, she immediately placed the blame on us. She insisted we had to pay for the large size and repeatedly said she couldn’t do anything since we “already drank them.”
I explained — more than once — that this was clearly a staff training mistake, not something we intentionally ordered. We had no way of knowing the server brought us a different size. Still, the manager refused to acknowledge any responsibility on her team’s part.
What concerned me most was that she showed no willingness to help, no ownership of the error, and honestly, very little experience in resolving a BASIC customer service issue. She claimed she couldn’t adjust the price unless she called the owner, which made me question why she holds a manager title if she has no authority to fix a simple mistake.
Eventually, she only removed $2 from the $11.59 price, still not matching the actual happy hour price. To make matters worse, our server quietly told us she would have to pay the difference herself, which is completely unfair considering this was a training oversight.
Overall, the manager’s lack of experience, lack of authority, and lack of concern for customer satisfaction overshadowed an issue that could have been resolved in seconds. Instead, we were blamed for something that was not our fault.
I truly hope this feedback is taken seriously. Hugo’s is a place I’ve always enjoyed, and I want to continue supporting it but the management approach absolutely needs improvement.

Cute location in a strip mall. Clean and spacious. Went for lunch on a Monday. Our server was attentive and nice. Food came quick. This was my first time having a Mexican restaurant steak and it was delicious and tasty. The chargrilled smokey taste was good. Baked potato and salad on the side. Had 2 margaritas and queso as well. Total for 2= $80! Unbelievable prices! Will definitely recommend and return.

We stopped in for lunch, and I ordered the chicken fajita salad. It came with ranch dressing that I tried, but I didn’t care for it. So I ate it with their salsa and it was so good and fresh. I know, a salad isn’t a good indicator for how good a Mexican restaurant is, but if the quality of ingredients in their salad is any indication of the rest of their menu, if day it’s great. The staff was nice and the service was fast.
