The One And Only (bar) – how is it? : r/stgeorge – Reddit

I joined a new (for me) band, and we’re playing there this Friday. I’ve never played in St. George, so just curious, what’s the vibe like?

After reading management’s response, I feel even more confident in my original review.
If this establishment refuses service based on tipping, that policy should be clearly posted at the bar or entrance. There was no sign, no disclosure, and no notice that choosing not to tip would result in being denied service. Refusing service after a customer is already purchasing drinks is unprofessional and disrespectful.
Tipping is customary, not mandatory. Customers are paying the posted prices, and how employees are compensated is the responsibility of ownership—not the guest. Using the “tipped wage” model does not give staff or management the right to selectively deny service. If tips are required to “keep prices low,” then prices should be adjusted accordingly and transparently.
The suggestion that customers should “drink at home” if they don’t want to tip is especially telling. I absolutely have the right to go out, buy beers, and expect basic professionalism without being shamed or treated poorly. That attitude alone will drive business away far faster than any review.
If refusing service over tipping is the norm here, I strongly recommend posting a sign so customers can decide upfront whether they want to support that policy. Otherwise, don’t be surprised when people take their money elsewhere.
For anyone looking for a better experience: The Station is a much better option. No entrance charge, better vibes, and you’re treated with respect the entire time.
Best of luck to management—but this approach is a fast way to lose regular customers.

The One and Only – St. George, UT
If you’re looking for a true local gem in St. George, The One and Only absolutely lives up to its name. This place has a chill, no-pressure vibe that makes it easy to relax the moment you walk in. Teresa, the bartender, is hands-down one of the best in town—friendly, fast, and she makes everyone feel like a regular, even on their first visit.
The four pool tables are a huge plus, always well-kept and perfect for a casual game or a full-on competition with friends. The crowd here is laid-back and welcoming, and there’s a kind of historical, hometown feel to the place that makes it special—almost a rite of passage for students and longtime locals alike in the old St. George area.
Whether you’re stopping in for a drink, a few rounds of pool, or just a comfortable place to hang out, The One and Only delivers every time. Highly recommend!

I had a disappointing experience at this bar due to the behavior of one of the staff members. I’m not sure of her name, but she is a slim female employee who typically works Friday and Saturday nights.
After we purchased beer, we were treated rudely and eventually refused service solely because we did not leave a tip. Tipping is optional and not legally required, especially in a situation where drinks are being served directly at the bar and no table service is involved. Refusing service on that basis is unprofessional and unacceptable.
We were polite customers and were still supporting the business by making purchases. Being denied service for not tipping left a very negative impression. I hope management takes situations like this seriously, as it affects the overall experience and reputation of the bar.

Top notch dive bar. You’ll quickly get past the fact it’s beer only because it’s got a better crowd/vibe than most bars. Dance floor gets down and dirty on the weekends. There are 4 pool tables with ample cues, and respectful players. Theme nights are fun, and the DJs kill it. This bar would be nothing without their elite staff. They set the tone and exemplify professionalism. Jordan , Ryan, Kimmy, and Teresa. You’ll know Teresa as the humble good looking bartender who runs the show and makes sure this bar runs smoothly. It’s the local bar anyone can appreciate.

Love this place! If you’re looking for margaritas and cocktails, this isn’t your place. If you’re looking for beer that is reasonably priced and great atmosphere, this is where you need to be! Usually something going on…music bingo, karaoke, open mic, live bands, etc. Staff is awesome and the bartenders are amazing!! Teresa will always take care of you!

Seems like a theme of toxic service and defending their poor service in order to grow their business (just check the other low ratings). However maybe focus on quality service and being friendly, especially with regulars. Last night witnessed a woman waitress in her mid 40s with blonde hair attacking a regular after he barely sat down to play pool demanding he buy a beer and give her a tip. Very disrespectful and the customer did agree to buy a beer but why would he tip someone yelling and berating him when he barely arrived. Tips are earned not demanded. I’ve never seen such insane lack of customer service. If they’re having such issues with their business, reconsider the free pool on Sundays and Mondays and particularly how you treat customers. Customer stayed calm after multiple attacks from this crazed woman and only after she was forcing him to leave did he snap back. Wow just wow. Not only will I never come here but will make it be known this place deserves to be run out of business if they keep people like her as leaders. The bouncer said he’s sorry and there’s nothing he can do because she’s the boss. Guess that type of leadership will get its karmic return. Sad for the good people that work there.

Nice space to hang out in St. George, with a bar only serving beer and no food. There is a main space with four pool tables and another dancing area with lights and a DJ in the deeper part of the bar. The was karaoke the night we were there. The beer prices are cheap and you can order the draft ones in 16oz (pint), 32oz or 64oz with the associates discount. Generally good atmosphere.

If you like playing pool, dancing to DJ or singing karaoke, this is a great place. The bartenders are great. Big Jon, Mary Lynn, Teresa are great bartenders. You will always feel safe. The bouncers Jordan (Mr Clean), Elija (Black Jesus) and Kerry and his son are all amazing. If you like pool they even do league and tournaments on Sunday night. Pool is free Sunday, Monday and Tuesday if you want to practice.
