38 years of dining at Amatos and this is the most stingy pathetic double ham & cheese sandwich I’ve ever been served. Not impressed that i waited 10 minutes and paid $9 for this sad thing.
I posted this 24 hours ago, if I don’t hear back from you by tomorrow I’m calling the corporate office and making my complaint with them.

Im adding this to the begining so it is seen. After this review the owner did reach out to me and assured me that the staff would be advised at how important the quality is for the patrons and the franchise. He reimbursed me well and asked for another chance to make the food i have loved for so long. Since then i have had no issues with the food and will give them the chance to continue the service and quality i expect. Updates will follow. Unfortunately over the 38 years I have been a patron of Amatos the quality of their food and service has dwindled to the point that I will no longer be ordering anything from their franchise. Attached is a photo of my “Fresh” veggie Italian. DISPICABLE!! The tomato’s are mush the bread soggy and the seeds from the pepper are littered throughout my sandwich.

My peeps said I had to try Amato’s Italian Grinder. I like Italians and I like Grinder so why not?
The overall experience dampened by enthusiasm. The store is more of a convenience store atmosphere so expect zero ambiance. The cashier was pretty hot on the outside but rather empty on the inside bordering on New England rude. Brewed tea? – no way grab a canned drink. Quality chips offered- not really.
The grinder looked delicious on the outside but had standard processed meat. The olives were nice as were the peppers. I am usually critical of bread, but is was soft and very fresh. The crowd was more the food stamps crowd than the hipster foodies Portland is known for so I give it an average rating overall.

Is this some sort of joke? 7.95 for a ceasar salad that has wilted, watery, brown romaine lettuce, no croutons, 2 black wrinkled olives, and some provolone cheese. Absolute disgrace. Assumed when you call over the phone for an order that you wouldn’t get a salad that was made days ago and just taken off the shelf and put into a to go bag. Nothing “Real” about this shameful “Italian” salad. Gross.

Truly a Maine classic! If you want a traditional Italian sandwich this is the place to go!

Just came in for an Italian sandwich. There were 6 people behind the counter. 1 was at the register, 1 was making sandwiches, and the other 4 were standing in a circle talking. Someone ahead of me ordered multiple sandwiches and a pizza, so sandwich guy was busy alone. Instead one of the additional 4 people helping him, they just stood talking while this one guy cranked out 5 sandwiches in a row. Consequently, I stood waiting for about 10 minutes for what could have been a couple minutes if the staff here actually… I don’t know… worked as a team? Italian was good though so 2 stars.

Always the same, never bad. Only complaint is there were 4 people working at 4:30pm and it took almost 15 minutes just to take my order.

The Washington Ave Amatos is the best and the other Portland location are very good too.
The worst and I will never be back is Falmouth.
I gave them dozens of chances and just poor all the way around. If people judge the Amatos italian on this place alone the business would fail.

I’m not sure what the issue with this particular location is. They have only made my order the right way once out at least 3 times this summer. My order? A veggie wrap. Tried to get extra lettuce 1 time which didn’t happen and they forgot pickles. Today NO lettuce. I’ve never complained but this specific wrap has been my go to since I stopped smoking a few months ago! It’s my crutch NO problems from the other 3 locations
