Our bowls came very quick, we’re talking about just over 5 min or so for a party of 4 which was impressive. The food itself was pretty good considering the quick preparation. The tonkotsu broth is rich and deep with above average chashu that brings the bowl a little pop of flavor. The shio ramen is also nice and savory and comes with thick noodles unlike the tonkotsu’s thin noodles. The thick noodles are definitely better with a better chew so opt for those if you come in. The toppings are good, specifically the bamboo shoot but two areas they could improve on is the soft boiled egg, it felt a bit lacking in seasoning, and the setting. The price of the bowl was a bit high considering it felt like a very casual place to dine at. It’s by no means a bad setting, it’s just at that price point it didn’t feel like it aligned. Still, Yokohama Iekei is a good ramen place that’s more on the casual side, probably better suited for a casual date or hangout than any dinner or special night.
I stopped by here for lunch before my movie and thought it’d be worth a try considering it was right next to the theater.
They have a good amount of options for food and also let you customize things like broth richness, spice level, and noodle firmness.
I got the Black Garlic Ramen and it came very quickly. It comes with an ok amount of noodles, a soy sauce egg, two small pieces of chashu, and some toppings, though for almost $20 I expected more of the non-protein toppings.
Broth was pretty flavorful and the noodles had a nice texture. Not the most exceptional bowl I had, but perfectly passable as a neighborhood choice.
Good Ramen, more expensive than it’s probably worth, but still enjoyable.
The meat is extremely salty. Lots of noodles, very firm. It’s quite spicy even without asking to add spice. The soup is spicy enough that that was all I tasted?
I recommend cutting the eggs in half, improve presentation, and really cut down on the salt+spice.
The climate in Daly city is very foggy, which is perfect for eating ramen. The fried octopus legs and fried oyster are delicious. I think the octopus legs are made from their own fried powder, which is quite delicious. The octopus legs are not small octopus legs but the upper part of the octopus legs’s texture is great !
All ramen can be chosen as thick or light, the noodles should be soft or hard, the soup has a strong flavor, the noodles with good texture , and the house-made pork belly Chashu is very soft and delicious.
Parking at next gate , no need ticket , easy to walk down , no fee .
Black Garlic Ramen ($16.98 + $0.99 mild spicy) – The egg was not marinated, and they seemed to be really stingy on the toppings. I only had a few bean sprouts and a sprinkle of green onions, maybe 2 bamboo shoots at most.
Jigoku Ramen ($16.98 + $0.99 regular spicy) – Same complaints as above. Also when they say it’s spicy, they mean spicy,
Karage Fried Chicken ($7.90) – Fried well but zero seasoning. I think they expect you to use the accompanying sauce, but it is too sweet for my liking.
Want to come back for the Tsukemen.
