Nice diner right of I80 friendly and inviting atmosphere. I had the chopped steak dinner and you can tell they used fresh meat and not frozen. The food was wonderful and there is a nice selection on the salad bar. And will be back once we are in the area. The menu isn’t to complex.

I had a delicious lunch at Purple Onion! I tried the Double Western Burger with fries and the open-faced hot beef—classic, home-cooked diner food at its best. No complaints at all! The service was quick and friendly, which made the experience even better. I loved the little twist in the chicken salad with mandarin oranges and eggs; it was a nice touch.
Next time, I’m definitely trying the chicken strips with mashed potatoes and green beans! The restaurant itself was clean, bright, and had such a welcoming vibe. I’ll definitely return if I’m in the area again. Highly recommend!

Cute little diner just off I-80 & Route 78. Hours are breakfast/lunch times which worked out great for us. We enjoyed the pork tenderloins & had the cheeseburger (chowder) soup, I believe that’s what she said. Pepsi products. We were full but seen quite a few slices of pie being served.

This is a “Must Stop” whenever you pass by it. I never eat here enough when I go visit home, but honestly between the prices and quality of food, there’s not a reason not to. The burgers were cooked perfect and the salad bar is such a reasonable price with an entree. Fabulous! Will be back again this summer!

This morning, I ate at the Purple onion for the first time. Tara is easily one of the best waitresses out there. Glad I chose the delicious ham and cheese omelet. The bacon was cooked to perfection, and of course, that bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar was a nice little desert. Can’t forget the cup of coffee. Best cup of coffee in town. My bill was $14. That’s a small price for great food and a pleasant experience. Janet informed me that she opened the Purple Onion 30 years ago and let me tell you, she does an exceptional job with this place! You bet I’ll be back! Thanks again ladies!

The Purple Onion is one of those hidden gems in a tiny town. The breakfast is great, the burgers are good, but what makes this place as amazing as it is are the people. Everyone is so friendly here! This trip I went for breakfast, it was packed with locals but there was still a table for me to sit. I went with the Country Fried steak with eggs over easy and hash browns, with a full order of biscuits and gravy. The Country Fried Steak was really good, full of flavor and not mushy. My eggs were a tad overcooked, but still runny enough that they weren’t ruined. The biscuits and gravy are okay, the biscuits are soft and fluffy, but the gravy is lacking flavor. The raisin toast is always a good choice and make sure you get the honey butter!
If you have a bit of a sweet tooth, you won’t regret trying a piece of homemade pie with your meal! I recommend coming here for good food and the small town feel of a restaurant that cares about their patrons.

Delicious food and fantastic service! My coffee cup never got below half full without someone filling it. It was very busy this morning, BUT our service and waitress was exceptional. Always love this place for it’s food and
feel.

When I’m passing through this area, I like to stop at this little town café. (Take note I’m making this post December 30, 2024. Their hours of operation have been adjusted for the holiday )It’s cafés like this that keep America rolling in this world that is full of corporate chains . It isn’t very far off the highway 5min, It’s worth a stop. The folks are friendly and the food is top-notch. I especially enjoy stopping here for breakfast. This was a decent place in Annawan Illinois. Took my aunt and uncle there for lunch on a Sunday. For a small town Cafe, they do a good job of providing good quality food and the prices are decent as well. If I’m ever back in Illinois to visit family again will definitely stop in at this place again.
