Our experience was ludicrously bad. The only good things about our visit were the kind servers, the shared misery with other patrons, and the actual hilarity of how bad things were. I’m struggling to think if I’ve had a worse dining experience anywhere else in my life, but nothing comes to mind.

I’ll preface this by saying: I don’t blame the wait staff at all. A sign in the front of the restaurant says “under new management” and it 100% shows. The staff did the best they could with being understaffed, over booked, and tried to give people a decent experience while actively running out of food. They were under-staffed for one of the busiest nights of the year (Valentine’s Day), and as a result service was some of the slowest I’ve ever experienced (we waited over an hour for our appetizer course), and OpenTable apparently gave them a run for their money by booking too many tables (they’re supposed to close at 8:30, and a couple seated behind us had a reservation FOR 8:30). They kept running out of things on their pre-fixe menu, they had to substitute with lesser quality items (they did adjust the price for us in this instance), the portions were small for the price, and some of the food was just bad (the bisque tasted like burnt butter). I mentioned the pre-fixe menu, which, they did not. At no point between booking the table and confirming our reservation and showing up did they mention the menu. We only learned about it when we sat down and it was placed in front of us. This is absolutely something that should be mentioned, especially considering the price difference and change in food options. I would heavily caution against dining here on a special occasion. I can’t speak for dinner service on a regular day, but I certainly won’t be returning to try it.

Other highlights of our visit included:
-Never being offered water (a couple seated nearby gave us their pitcher)
-The waitstaff worrying about running out of food and not getting any breaks (a position they shouldn’t have been put into)
-A couple having to leave because they ran out of the only vegan option
-Arriving at 7:45 and leaving after 10pm

I understand that dealing with OpenTable might have caused a lot of these issues and being understaffed doesn’t help, but tackling issues with booking ahead of time and over staffing on an extremely busy night would probably go a long way. Also, they need to either give people a heads-up about the set menu, or get rid of it altogether. If we had known about it we probably wouldn’t have dined here.

Fabulous restaurant in Port Townsend – Alchemy. Such delicious pasta pomodoro that we went back twice now for dinner and definitely planning more before I fly back to SF. The decor is so I treating in this historic building. Music 4 nights a week. Amazing service – they wrap your leftover bread in foil in the shape of a bird.

Wow I don’t even know where to start. First when walking in this restaurant was the most aesthetically pleasing place ive ever seen. Perfect for instagram. There were even two little stuffed bears that were super cute. Despite coming in at a late hour with a large group of 8, the staff was extremely polite and welcoming. We had the chance of meeting the owner, she was so sweet and kind. Service was top notch and the food was also excellent. Usually when a restaurant passes out bread its cold and stale, however Alchemy exceeded my expectations, the bread was soft and had hints of sweetness and the butter smooth + not heavy. I would recommend the Angel Hair pasta and Lamb Bourguignon as they were delicious. I would refer this place for anyone who decides to visit the town of Port Townsend. Best atmosphere ever!

Overall okay place – food was tasty, but I feel like nothing super special! The tortellini dish and bruschetta were our favs of the night and i’d recommend ordering. The bar area is cool and has kind of a fun vibe and aesthetic to it. Our servers were great and very nice, did take a while to get our check at the end and it wasn’t too busy, but after asking we got it right away. On a Saturday night we made a reservation, but would of been fine walking in! This place is suited for groups of all sizes.

We went on Valentines Day, with a reservation. It was not great.
1. Their website did not say there would be a set menu for the night, so we could not order the food we really wanted to eat.
2. The price was $200 for 2 people.
3. The amount of food was SOOOOOOO small. Literally, 2 bites of mashed potatoes and about 4 bites of steak.
4. The food tasted good, so that’s the only positive.
5. The service was awful. On a special day that is completely booked, they should over staff. We had to ask for water, we only got our drinks after asking multiple times, and portions of the meal were being missed (like soup) at ours and other tables.

I expected a lot more overall for the very high price tag.

Just finished a Valentine’s dinner there. The place was packed to the gills and likely understaffed. The staff that were there, especially our server Rhonda worked extremely hard to make our experience special and intimate. We appreciated our visit and will be back again soon!

We made reservations but the restaraunt was not that busy on a Saturday night at 7 pm. The food was very good and decent portions. Service was perfect. All of the staff were friendly, polite and professional. Recommendations from our server were spot on. I will eat here again next time I’m in town.

Valentines Day reservation did not go well. The food looked good (very pricy) , but they did not have their reservation system and staffing dialed in for a big night. Very unorganized.

They ended up running out some of the menu items, so we ultimately had to leave after an hour of waiting.

2 stars instead of 1, the waiter was nice.

Unfortunately the reservation service does not work well and we still hade to wait over 30 minutes past our reservation started. Others waited over an hour to be seated. We came during Valentine’s Day and 2 of their staff called out so the service once seated was also extremely slow.

After waiting and finally being waited on, the only vegan option was sold out for the night and the waiter could not help to find a solution for me that did not include dairy. He was trying his best, but he was not very helpful and was definitely over worked.

The food looked good, but for the very high price and since I could not order a meal, we left to find another option.

So beware of reservation still having a very long wait and the meals to not be available and not substituting or editing the meal for an allergy.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. The ambience was lovely. There was beautiful piano sounds in the background. The food… over the top. We ordered the Halibut/penne and the lamb bourguignon. Simply delicious. Definitely coming back! Our waitress, was delightful as well.
