Now I want to point out that I do know what good gelato taste like. Manwaring gelato in Idaho falls is amazing. Gelato is made milk heavy instead of cream heavy and doesn’t use air like ice cream does to create a butter fat effect. So it is usually quite a bit thicker (think of the consistency of marshmellow spread) and usually pretty flavorful.
We went in and it was a bit older of a place, like everything in Lava, and it had a small display freezer that held a variety of gelato options. My wife and I sampled a few and none were really that great. Not wanting to leave this employee by saying, these were kind of gross we are not interested I decided to buy a scoop. (I also enjoy supporting local.) I paid the price of $5 a scoop, which is not high for gelato and walked out with my wife. I took one bite of the moose tracks gelato that we had chosen and I just didn’t like it. The flavor was strange and there was hardly and tracks, I didn’t believe a moose had even walked near that gelato. My wife agreed it was honestly a little gross and I begrudgingly tossed a gelato cup in the trash on the street corner with only 2 bites taken out.
Overall, I wouldn’t go here. Particularly not for the gelato. To be fair I can’t speak to any other products in this store.
Side note: not the best if you are allergic to nuts, they have lots of treats that contain them.
-1 star for price and atmosphere
