Came in for a girls night and left with a new favorite place in Pittsburgh! Alina was our server she was 10/10 from the start of service until we headed out. She guided us through the menu and spotlighted some of her favorites. I really appreciated that she asked if we had any allergies. The general manager was also lovely and he greeted us right away when we came in. For drinks we ordered:

The Goldmember
Mojito Verde
Carajillo Martini (Espresso Martini)

For food we ordered:
Lamb Neck Hummus & Pita (a MUST!!!)
Hamachi
Crab Rice
Okinawa Sweet Potato
Pineapple Tapocia with Coconut Crème

Everything on the food and beverage menus were seriously so good. I can’t wait to go back and try more! There is a dress code but it is strictly enforced at 10pm when they transition some of the lounge tables to a dance floor. I wore tasteful jeans to dinner and was fine. I can’t wait to go back and am truly obsessed with the vibes!

I have many thoughts about our experience at sea monkey, mostly bad but I want to give this place another try since it’s very new. I loved the drinks and the concept of having a fusion of different cuisines. I was disappointed in our service and the layout of the restaurant, however. We were seated in a high top next to the screen, and there was a big group celebrating next to us. This is okay, but the placement of the seats meant these people were standing around right next to our faces, making it very uncomfortable to talk or be present near them and we felt like intruders in their space.

The sushi was a little disappointing since we are regulars at gi jin and golden gai, but the fish in the sashimi bowl tasted fishy and stale and bland. Moreover, the addition of paddlefish caviar to the toro maki made it salty beyond belief. To address the blandness point, no server ever gave us soy sauce, which made me think that the sashimi bowl would have been seasoned already but it was not – just with sushi rice vinegar. You can already tell looking at the sashimi bowl that it’s a weird mix of chirashi and sashimi plates, with rice at the bottom but no soy sauce on the bowl, and no practical way to mix it as the slices of lemon and leaves have zero purpose.

When we had clearly finished our plates and drinks, servers would come to give us our next dish, but they didn’t ask to or take away our dirty empty plates, crowding our already small table. This happened MULTIPLE times. We also had to flag down our server two times, while they checked in to the table next to us but never really came over. The crab fried rice was good- but why the black truffle???

This place needs to do better for the price point and experience advertised, even accounting for the fact that it’s the strip district.

Came back to Pittsburgh for a little birthday celebration and found out the Strip District has a brand new lounge. Sea Monkey is such a cute spot and brings a fresh new vibe to the Burgh. From the moment we walked in, the energy was there. Great service, super friendly staff, and even the nicest security team which always sets the tone for the night.

This review is based on drinks, ambiance, and overall experience since we didn’t eat, but everything we had was great. The cocktails were on point and the vibe was even better. The space is stylish, fun, and yes, even the bathrooms are cute. I usually take pictures of my drinks, but I didn’t take a single one because we were having such a good time from start to finish.

It is loud, but that’s to be expected with a spot like this. If you’re planning on deep conversation all night, this may not be the place. But if you want good drinks, a packed dance floor, and an overall fun night out, Sea Monkey is it. It honestly felt like the finest people in Pittsburgh were all in one room. Can’t wait to come back!

This place was fantastic! It’s hard to find a Deshantz restaurant that isn’t 5 star so whatever was going on in the early days is the over. The food and drinks were amazing and our waitress Alina was so attentive and sweet and really knew her stuff. The manager even gave us a little tour. Definitely recommend!

This place is definitely caters to a somewhat younger crowd, and is more about the drinks than it is the food. The portions are “small food”, a little pricey, but very tasty, I’m very interesting combinations of flavors. Definitely aimed at the younger office crowd who is getting off of work and wants to socialize and have small food and drink.

The atmosphere was festive and the various seating options make this place unique. The music was too loud, and there was gum stuck under the table(accidentally put my hand on it as I was trying to adjust my stool )which is why I gave it a 4 instead of 5 for atmosphere. Service needs some work. All of our dishes came out within 2-3 minutes of each other. It felt very rushed. It would make for a better experience if the timing was paced and dishes are cleared as you finish. On a positive note our waitress was friendly and helpful. The food was disappointing. My husband loved the lamb chops but way too rare for my taste. Spicy tuna roll was mushy and lacking in flavor. The crab rice was heavy and too small of a serving for the price. The beet salad was kinda boring. The drinks are expensive but good. Overall, I would probably return for happy hour but not for dinner.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review for Sea Monkey (Strip District)
I had such a great time at Sea Monkey in the Strip District. It is a new lounge with a beautiful vibe and delicious food. It was perfect for girl time because it felt intimate enough for conversation, but still lively and fun like a lounge.
Atmosphere: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The decor is gorgeous and very intentional. The lighting is warm and flattering. We sat in a curved booth that felt cozy, comfortable, and elevated. There was a really cool tree feature behind the booth, and the large aquarium screen added an extra touch to the vibe. It felt chic, modern, and inviting.
Food: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
There were three of us and we ordered something from each section of the menu to share. Everything was absolutely delicious. The oysters were so good. They did not have horseradish, but it was not missed at all because the flavor on them was strong in the best way and not heavy. The crab dip was amazing and the pita bread served with it was light, fluffy, and very tasty. We also had the toro caviar maki roll and a California roll, and both were really good. Oh yeah, the crab fried rice was so good! The small plates are filling, and you leave satisfied without feeling heavy or bloated. Unfortunately, we didn’t leave enough room for dessert. So I’ll try that next time.
Drinks: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I do not drink alcohol, and I really appreciated that they made a mocktail for me that felt intentional and grown up. It was made with strawberries, hibiscus, and ginger and it was delicious. It was not overly sweet and it still felt like a real cocktail experience.
Hospitality: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful without being overbearing. Great service and great energy. Even the uniforms were cute. They wear brown and I love neutral tones, so that was a nice touch.
Parking Note
There is a parking lot across the street, but it was pretty expensive. My parking was $15, which felt pricey just to park for dinner.
Overall
Sea Monkey is definitely worth a visit. Great atmosphere, great food, great drinks, and great hospitality. I will absolutely be back.

Really like the idea of this place but it still needs work to fully get there. The cocktails are not great and especially overpriced. Ordered a spicy margarita that had no flavor, no spice and cheap tequila. The mango no 5 just tasted like juice, no good balance or nuance of flavors. Additionally, really need to get the handheld machines able to take payment. Those not working plus having no bill books or pens meant getting bills last night took an hour for our group.
