New Year’s Eve dinner was a smash!
Originally booked at Heron, we had been moved here and couldn’t be more grateful. We communicated with a lovely lady who even offered us a drink on the house. We had a table at the very back corner and oddly enough were happy with the placement! Great hustle and bustle, busy but not crowded. The food was a prix fixe but was outstanding. I hope to visit again soon to try their food without limitation! We had a lovely waitress who took great care of us, great chit chat! A beautiful evening to ring in the new year, thank you Merlot!

I live in Ottawa but Merlot was always my husband’s favourite restaurant and mine. I went last evening by myself and sat at the bar. It was making me feel a little sad. The manager stepped up chatting to me and making me feel at ease. The special of roasted scallops and cauliflower was excellent. The lemon tart a must. Amazing food and service! The owner of Merlot graciously donated a prize to a community Facebook group, silent auction and the money donated went to a charity of choice (human society) the food was fantastic! The service was amazing.

We celebrated our son’s communion at Merlot this past weekend. The planning stage was easy and seamless, the service and food were excellent and the atmosphere was cozy and chic. We loved it all and would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice place to celebrate a special family occasion or a meal out for brunch, lunch or dinner. My steak tartare was delicious. Those brioche buns were impeccable. The burger and fries were definitely a party favourite. Thank you Amanda and Merlot staff for making this family gathering so special and memorable.

Brandon took our reservation over the phone and went above and beyond to accommodate us with a table, which truly set the tone for our lunch. He greeted us warmly at the door as we were celebrating a friend’s birthday—who is of French descent and wanted to experience authentic French cuisine and wine. That personal touch made the occasion feel extra special.
From the appetizers onward, everything was outstanding. The beef tartare and oysters—ah shucks!—were fresh, balanced, and beautifully prepared. The Côte du Rhône by the glass was exceptional: full-bodied with structured tannins and great legs. For those preferring non-alcoholic options, they even had 0.0 Heineken available, which was greatly appreciated.
The burger was absolutely phenomenal, paired perfectly with mixed greens and crispy, flavorful French fries. The mussels were also fantastic—the broth alone was rich, aromatic, and packed with flavor.
I’m already looking forward to my next visit to Merlot. Highly recommend this restaurant for brunch, lunch, or an evening out. And don’t forget to check out the patio in the summertime—it’s absolutely beautiful.

We celebrated our vow renewal at Merlot on June 28, and it was absolutely perfect. The ambiance was warm, elegant, and inviting — creating the ideal backdrop for such a special day. The stunning space, delicious food (steak tartare, steak frites, duck, sea bass, and charcuterie were all incredible), and phenomenal bar team made the day unforgettable. The cocktails were killer and added such a fun, lively vibe!
A special thanks to Amanda and Jenny for their thoughtful planning, smooth coordination, and incredible adaptability throughout the process — their flexibility helped make the event effortless and stress-free. While we wished for a built champagne tower and a few extra umbrellas on the patio, these small details didn’t take away from an otherwise flawless experience.

Had a great first visit here with a friend a couple of weeks’ back. We were only able to get a pair of bar seats, but the barkeep (Eric) who was serving us was very informative and helpful when it came to offering insights and suggestions about menu items, including drink pairings.
The bread, like the bread at most French restaurants, is absolutely delectable. If I’m ever to get fat, let it be by a truckload of those loaves, please.
The camembert fondue appetizer and steak frites main that I had were excellent, and they paired well with the bar’s signature Merlot Martini. Of course, a nice red would have arguably paired better, but it was a good match if you’re looking for something less dry and with a kick of personality.
Will definitely be stopping by again in the future!
