Another first visit for me. Stopped in for a take out purchase. The restaurant appeared clean and neat. The buffet was nice and clean. The choices were good, and the food looked pretty fresh. I believe they had 4 soup choices and some items I have not seen at a Chinese buffet, such as crayfish, mussels, and clams. They offered a nice selection of sushi. While I don’t eat it personally, it was presented appealingly. I would definitely go back there in the future.

The meat was awful in our chinese dishes. The beef with the Lo Mein had a very weird chewy and rubbery texture. The Orange Chicken was a lot of heavily breaded small pieces. Very tough and chewy. Overcooked maybe? Something was definitely off with the meat in our dishes. Everything else was okay, rice, vegetables, noodles, sauce/flavor. Just really disappointing with the beef and chicken being tough, rubbery and overly chewy. Unfortunately, I am not sure we would try again unless they focus on protein quality.

So I went by for the buffet to go, so my wife came in with me and as I was getting my food , I heard her talking with the female upfront at the register about whether or whether not they cooked their food with each other or really close with each other, due to her having Seafood allergies, as I listened to them talk, the woman, at the counter was very rude as she didn’t know the answers to the questions being asked as well as she had an WHOLE attitude when she went towards the back to find out, which was very unprofessional, too bad the guy that that worked the counter this past weekend wasn’t their, he was very nice to me and my mom when we were there, the the woman yesterday 5/23/23 around 4ish, she was the rudest worker I’ve ever encountered up there, these business might have good food, and an atmosphere and all but some of these workerd will run your business away due to bringing their attitudes to work with them. Our favorite Asian buffet. The food quality is consistent and satisfying, including the hot buffet items and the cold sushi. We have never been disappointed here and it’s always included in our trips to Charlottesville.

My 2nd review since East Garden re-opened. Thankfully, their fried rice is back to how it used to be before they closed: absolutely delicious and perfect! Shrimp Chow Mein was tasty and very satisfying with an abundance of shrimp. Unfortunately, beef dishes the last 3 times I ordered take-out were not good. The beef continues to be rubbery and tasteless. On previous visits I had ordered Hunan Beef and Mongolian Beef. This time I ordered Beef with Vegetables. In addition to rubbery beef, this dish lacked any taste. I was determined to eat so I re-cooked the beef and sauce at home, to which I added some orange zest, sauteed garlic, sesame oil and stir fry sauce. After searing the beef and simmering it in the sauce, it was very edible — and proved to myself that somebody at East Garden just doesn’t know how to cook beef. No chef wants advice from a customer, however, just simmering that beef a little longer might help. Still my favorite Asian restaurant — especially for the fried rice. I will continue to patiently patron this establishment in hopes they will fix the beef dishes as they did the rice.

Take out was ready on time but the food was really disappointing. Sesame Chicken was so overcooked it was hard to chew. Moo Shu sauce had a very strange consistency. Bad reviews from my whole family. Will not go again.

I believe it’s unfair this place doesn’t have better reviews. My family and I visited the place on July 4th around 9PM when most places in town were closed due to the holiday and it exceeded my expectations for a Chinese restaurant. We ordered a house special fried rice with extra meat (they also have the typical buffet),, some dumplings and salad. They offered us the salad for free and brought us a really tasty fried rice with a lot of protein and a plate with extra meat. The charge for the extra meat was very reasonable and the flavour of the food was great. I have eaten in multiple Chinese places domestically and abroad and this has been one of the three top fried rices ever.Price and service was excellent too so I aim gonna give them a really high score for value in Charlottesville. I can’t attest of other dishes since this was my first experience with them but judging by this one, they get my highest recommendation

I ordered egg rolls and chicken lo mein. The egg rolls were fine, not particularly good but not much worse than most other similarly priced restaurants. The lo mein was very bad and seemed old. It was almost flavorless, the onions and scallions were cut very thick, the noodles broke easily, and the chicken was rubbery to the point that I did not eat it.

Everything was good. LOVED the Hot and Sour soup and the Japanese chicken. Very reasonable prices. Actually, don’t eat the fortune cookie…nasty.
