I went to Millie’s Kitchen & Cocktails on a Saturday morning for brunch with my wife and our toddler. Millie’s is a popular neighborhood seafood restaurant in Houston’s Oak Forest area, known for Southern and coastal-inspired dishes, craft cocktails, and being genuinely family-friendly. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, including patios and a dedicated play area for kids, which already sets them apart.
They have private parking spots out front and a large outdoor patio facing the street. We walked in without a reservation and were seated right away. They brought out a high-chair for our son immediately. Inside, the restaurant was busy, but it was a colder morning so the front patio wasn’t being used much. They also have a separate backyard patio with a turfed, enclosed area where kids can safely play, which is a huge plus for families.
We ordered from the brunch menu.
[BRUNCH]
+Lobster Roll for $38 – Maine lobster poached in butter, served in a brioche-style lobster bun with fries. My wife ordered this with fries, and I ordered the same dish with a Caesar salad. This lobster roll was excellent. They served the lobster folded into thick Texas toast and brought extra butter on the side. Easily one of the best lobster rolls I’ve had. It’s definitely pricey, but absolutely worth it as an occasional splurge. The fries and salad were good, but the lobster roll completely stole the show. – 5/5
[KID’S MENU]
+Basket of Fried Shrimp for $7 – Served with fries or fruit. My son didn’t eat much of the shrimp, but I thought it was solid. He ate all the fruit. He had already eaten at home, so hunger may have been a factor. For the price, this was perfectly fine. – 4/5
Overall, Millie’s Kitchen & Cocktails really impressed me. The lobster roll alone is worth returning for, and now that I’ve seen how seafood-forward the menu is, I’m excited to try more dishes on future visits. Add in the family-friendly setup, outdoor play space, and smooth service, and this is a place I’ll gladly come back to for brunch (and more)!

MIllie’s has wonderful food. We have eaten here three or four times, including lunch, and love it.
We went on the spur of the moment on Friday evening, 2/27. Everything was quite busy when we drove up, but it appeared our party of three would be able to get a table in short order. Children and dogs everywhere, which is really pretty fun for old fogies.
However the service was as chaotic as the children playing in the back play area. No one on staff appeared to have assigned tables to handle. We did manage to grab someone to order drinks and apps, which did appear after some wait. No one had appeared to take a food order, so again we had to go find a (different) person to take our food order.
While the apps were excellent, after about 45 minutes we began to wonder where the food was. Again flagging down a member of the staff (yet another individual) who volunteered to check, the word was that while our order was on the board in the kitchen, he had absolutely no idea when it might be out.
At that point we waved the white flag, having been in our seats for over an hour, paid for what we had gotten, and left.
I would conclude that restaurant supervision is nonexistent, and staff training is also likely absent or at least disintegrates when the pressure of a busy night is on. I’m sure the owner will respond disputing my conclusion, but unlike many today, if I see it with my eyes and hear it with my ears, I trust it.
Nevertheless, this is a great place to get a wonderful meal. We will plan to visit only when things are reasonably calm and organized!

As a restaurant owner and recognized by USA 2025 one of Americas best I fully can say this restaurant deserves to be on the list as one of America’s best. Great atmosphere , good food and you make friends forever. I thank my good friend(Greg Perez ) for bringing me from Louisiana and trying this great restaurant.

We sat on the back patio with a group of families. The smaller kids took advantage of an enclosed play area (set up for under 5s.) service was fast and attentive. We left around 6 and live music was just starting on the front patio.
It’s happy hour on weekdays 3-6 so I enjoyed a beer and we ordered the fried mashed potato balls to share. They weren’t our favorite but we enjoyed our crab cake dinner, kids shrimp and Caesar salad.

Stopped in for dinner and we’re quite impressed with the menu selection. We started off with some east coast oysters which were phenomenal. My girlfriend asked for a Mexican martini and they didn’t even blink and made it for her. I elected to have a summer pilsner and it was delicious. We tried the tuna poke and a fried platter which was extraordinary. what really separated this restaurant for us was the customer service our waiter was amazing. Gerard took care of us really good. We will return soon!

This is such a cute spot with a wide variety of seating options. The menu is very eclectic, and there are additional options for food available during happy hour. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, which is always appreciated. The food is delicious and filling!
I know it’s a seafood place, but the chicken salad sandwich is a must try!
Side note: all the salt and pepper shakers absolutely made my day!

The best seafood I’ve had in years. The oysters on the half shell were fresh and succulent. The fried shrimp and oyster platter with real French fries were the best. Only complaint, the tartar sauce was bland bottled stuff. Next time, I’ll bring my own home made, then all would be perfect!!!

What a Beautiful Lunch & Brunch place with cute patios. I had finished up an appt nearby om a Sunday and hadn’t eaten yet, so I saw that Millies was nearby and had a patio. It was a beautiful day and I wanted to invite my friend who was out with his dogs. It’s dog friendly. Our server was great (I can’t remember his name but ) he personally made my drink from a recipe I requested. The Brunch Shrimp and Grits was great and we also tried the calamari. They had a huge fan blowing on the patio for us on a warm day and when I told them dogs were coming, someone brought out an ice bowl of water right away for them. It was such a cute spot to relax on a weekend. And I hear they have great happy hour. I’ll be back.
