Great fun and sea food! You can pull up to the dock with you boat or park your car in their lot! Great indoor and outdoor covered seating! Food is pretty good— I suggest the sea food more than the other offerings. I wish they had loaded / truffle fries or cheddar biscuits something like that it would Killer! But the mahi fingers were great and the sea food platter! My chicken and shrimp flavors were amazing, but the chicken was a bit dry! Great beverages too! A solid choice!
Atmosphere: This place has both indoor and outdoor seating available with some of the outdoor seating directly overlooking the river (hence its name). It has a “river adventure” vibe mixed with a bit of rustic mixed in. Parking is plentiful even on busy nights. There’s also a walking path that takes you down to the river if you’re looking to stretch your legs.
Food: they do have a few local brews on tap (as shown in the photos) and I tried the Bayou Bock. Wonderful! Started off with the Gator Bites. Yes, definitely try those. Perfectly breaded, well seasoned and the dipping sauce pairs well. One particular thing is that they were very tender as opposed to others. Gator tends to be somewhat chewy but not here! After that came the Cajun Mahi Tacos. These fell a bit short. The mahi seemed a bit dry and I couldn’t taste anything Cajun in it. But the fries that came with them were delicious and well prepared.
Service: great service. Very friendly. Very attentive. It was quite busy as there was a large party in the back room, but the staff and kitchen handled things very well.
Overall: great time here. Would definitely visit again to try something else. Next time I’ll look to sit outside so I can take in the views of the river. If you’re in the area this place is worth a visit. It can be a little pricey, but the portions match the price.
The Atmosphere & Service
The standout feature of River Grille is undoubtedly its vibe. The locale feels like a classic, old-school resort restaurant, offering a relaxed and nostalgic atmosphere that invites you to slow down and enjoy the waterfront views. Whether you’re sitting inside or on the deck, the “vacation mode” energy is palpable. Complementing this is the staff; the service is great, with a team that is attentive, friendly, and efficient, ensuring you feel well-attended to throughout your visit.
The Culinary Experience
However, for a restaurant that heavily showcases seafood, the kitchen can be hit-or-miss. On a recent visit, the seafood did not live up to the surroundings. The catfish had a noticeably muddy taste, which overshadowed the preparation. Additionally, the hush puppies, often a reliable staple of Southern fish houses, were unfortunately lacking in flavor and failed to make an impression.
Verdict: It is important not to judge an entire establishment based on a single meal, especially when the service and environment are so high-quality. That said, as a first experience at a seafood-centric spot, it was disappointing. River Grille remains a fantastic choice for a sunset drink or a casual gathering based on its excellent service and stunning location, but you may want to explore the non-seafood options or different catches on your first trip.
