Interesting venue. The live band is always a nice addition. Was very excited to try the food and listen to the entertainment but unfortunately no one under 21 is allowed on premises. A store policy is understandable; if it was marketed. It seems perfectly reasonable to prohibit minors from sitting at the bar, but perfectly unreasonable to kick out hungry customers listening to music. With how far away from the city it is, definitely not worth a drive.

Very cool place!
This is my first time visiting, it’s so laid back and welcoming. We were greeted by an adorable “bar dog”. No, not the local drunk, an actual dog that was sweet and made the place very endearing. The decorations have a kitchy local feel like you’re relaxing in your own living room. There was a local band playing 80s and 90s hits and really made the night fun. There are 2 pool tables and darts inside. Outside is a nice seating area with horseshoes and cornhole for some light competitive entertainment. It doesn’t get more home-y than this, you gotta check it out for yourself.

Great dive bar, often with live music on the weekends.

Pickins are slim in the Black Forest, so this is the go to place by virtue that it is “the only game in town”. It is really the owners personal party cave , so it helps if you are a regular. There is no food, and the bartenders do NOT come out from behind the bar. Pretty lame if you are at a table 6 feet from the bar! Jon Taffer would not approve, but like I said only game in town.

Tried to go in at 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon for the football game. Walked in and the guy behind the bar was overly rude and said that no one under 21 was allowed in when there was a sign that said after 6pm. Called to let them know maybe they should take the sign down and the owner answered and was SO RUDE!! We won’t be going back and will be telling everyone how rude the staff was. ✌
If I could give zero stars I would.

I have been a Black Forest resident for a little over 5 years. The Chicken Coup, sits on Black Forest Road, so I have driven by this place hundreds of times without ever stopping in to see what’s going on inside. I’m glad I took the time to see what the place is like. The outside is pretty unique with it’s low slung angles. I was amazed by the size of the interior. The manager told me the place was packed at the grand opening with over 200 people! The inside reveals a rich history that dates back to the 1950’s. Log walls with chinking, a rock fireplace no longer in operation because of insurance reasons, dance floor, pool tables, beautiful huge wooden teak bench, and bar with a wood top that looks like it has a few war stories to tell. It was daytime so I sat up at the bar, ordered a cup of coffee and started up a conversation with a friendly guy sitting next to me named named Art (a.k.a. Chicken Man). I was really glad there wasn’t too much going on at the time (they were setting up for a baby shower with 50-60 guests coming) because Art can tell you the back stories about hundreds of items all around the bar, including the fireplace, the teak bench, and a little white box sitting up high that hold a set of false teeth. You will have to ask someone what’s behind that story, but it’s a good one and a little bit unsettling. Thank goodness alcohol kills germs is all I have to say. Anyway, if you do wind up taking the time to swing by “The Coup” for a drink, a cup of coffee, or to see the manager to ask about 60 of your closest friends getting together for a baby shower in a bar, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. If you’re lucky, you will bump into the Chicken Man. My advice, sit at the bar and listen to him tell a story or two. You will be glad you did.

Cool lil dive spot if you wanna be ignored the whole time. The “regulars” will always come first which I understand, but other than the bartender asking what I wanted to drink I didn’t get so much of a “you doing ok”? Decent space inside. Could be a vibe. But unless you’re from here and a regular, don’t bother coming here. You’ll be pushed to the side and forgotten about.

I truly love how community-oriented the Chicken Coop is and the camaraderie among their patrons. Shout out to Sherri the owner, who has a heart for the community which blends into her establishment. She has a fantastic staff that is driven to provide an outstanding environment for all. Fantastic location and energy, pool tables, live music, and great bar and people. I highly recommend others to check out the Chicken Coop and show some love to Sherri and her staff. Let’s go !
