I’ve been going to Sam Sylk’s for years now and never left a review but they deserve one after yesterday. It’s been a couple months since I’ve been up there and I see they’ve made a few positive changes. They’re no longer using regular lettuce for their fish sandwiches but arugula if I’m not mistaken, the tomatoes were great on my sandwich. I get a catfish sandwich whenever I order. They’ve definitely upgraded their macaroni and cheese! The fries weren’t fresh though and they’re NEVER flavorful but I usually don’t care because I don’t eat them but… if I’m paying $14+ for a meal EVERYTHING needs to be fresh. The price is too high for the macaroni and cheese (“large”). It’s nothing large about it at all. I thought it’d be enough for share amongst 3 since they didn’t have a family size option. I only pay because it’s my son favorite restaurant and I will say the staff is always helpful whether I’m ordering for myself or picking up for DoorDash. The owner doesn’t speak I’ve noticed but I give him a pass because he does give back to the community and his staff like I said is nice.

Ordered the 4pc special at 2:38pm, received a text at 2:41pm saying that my order was ready. At first I was like damn, they must be busy and have batches coming off. I’ve been a Sous chef (Mabel’s bbq, sapphire creek, just to name a few) so I know how at times when service is going fast you can predict the flow to drop more (sand bag) which results in faster service. I get there and the store is empty, not busy, so I’m thinking ok… I asked her was this fresh and she says “everything is fresh to order.” Me knowing that I received the text minutes afterwards ordering I decided to not be a “Chef” or logical person and gave her the benefit of the doubt. I stay 5 minutes from the house so when I get home and looked at it and said “this is old” normally you can smell Sam sylks when you walk up, if have your car smelling like it, you don’t even have to be a chef to know fresh fried chicken can be smelt miles away. It wasn’t! Thought maybe my nose is stuffy but it wasn’t. The chef part of me kicked in and bit it and determined I was sold old chicken!!

Food is always delicious. I always order the catfish. Never dried out, never greasy, Always cooked to perfection. The young ladies and gentlemen who work there are always polite and nice. They atmosphere is very pleasant and always clean. I recommend this location on Lee rd. all the time.

Last night I purchased a wedding dinner. And into my disappointment, that is not what I received I received a handful of old fries that had clearly been put back into the hot oil again three pieces of dry fish, one slice of hard bread and no coleslaw. This clearly looked like a sandwich and not a dinner. I think a lot of business owners have forgotten The importance of loyal customers in an economy as bad as this one currently the consumer has options and when good and fresh food is no longer one of those options I can no longer spend my money at that establishment.

Neighborhood resident needing a new ‘go to’ place and Sam Sylks has yet to let me down. I order my food the way I want it and it comes out that way…well done and crispy! The women at the counter is always a delight to talk to. It’s always clean inside and my food ALWAYS comes out hot and fresh. Great food. Great place. Great people.

Just moved back to Cleveland two weeks ago after being away for a long time. To come back and see Sam Sylk has his own restaurants made me smile. I enjoyed listening to him on the radio when I was a kid. I ordered pickup via the DoorDash app and picked up my food with no problems. The catfish sandwich is the bomb. I’ve had catfish in other cities but Cleveland folks make some of the best catfish. It was so good. Can’t wait to try out the rest of the menu.
