First time here. Got the arugula salad with salmon. Very tasty though I do wish I had a little more blue cheese crumbles and pears. Came with a good size piece of salmon which I loved. It was very quiet, hardly anyone in the restaurant. Seems like a nice place right off the interstate. Will definitely come again.

Nice atmosphere and excellent menu options! Both meals that I’ve had there were very good. Their wait staff however, while friendly, is not very experienced and pretty unattentive. I should note it was not busy either time I was there.

Four of us got there on Friday at 11:45 am. Madeline (waitress) asked us about drinks and an appetizer and we ordered calamari to share. The app came out in 15 minutes, but there were no plates for us to eat. 15 minutes later, we finally flagged Madeline down and she got plates to us. But unfortunately the calamari was pretty cold by then. We waited about another 30 minutes for her to take our lunch order. That was about 12:45 pm. Around 1:30 pm we asked Madeline about our lunches. Finally, she brought 3 of the four orders. Another 30 minutes went by and no 3rd order. She apologized and brought my Roast Beef Sammy with no fries. She said the fries would be coming soon. I finished my sandwich when my fries arrived. My sandwich was dried up beef all hard and crispy. I like my Roast Beef rare and this looked like it was shoe leather. After paying the bill, which another waitress took for us. We left the restaurant at 2:20 pm. Way too long (almost 3 hours) for a simple lunch. It saddens me that this happened. I like supporting local restaurants, but I am afraid to waste my time on this place.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Cooper’s Tavern & Taproom in New Kent, Virginia, and I can confidently say it deserves every one of its five stars! From the moment we arrived, the experience was exceptional. The patio area was absolutely huge—spacious, beautifully set up, and perfect for enjoying a meal outdoors. It’s rare to find such a well-designed outdoor space that feels both lively and relaxing.
The food & beer was nothing short of phenomenal. I tried the BLAT (that bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato combo is a game-changer), and it was hands-down one of the best I’ve ever had—crisp, fresh, and packed with flavor. My group went for other delicious choices like the steak, and it was cooked to perfection—juicy, tender, and seasoned just right. We also sampled a few other dishes, and every bite showcased the kitchen’s talent and attention to detail. The menu has something for everyone, but it’s clear they don’t compromise on quality no matter what you order.
The service was top-notch too—friendly, attentive, and quick without ever feeling rushed. Cooper’s Tavern nails the balance of upscale dining with a welcoming, down-to-earth vibe. If you’re in New Kent or even just passing through, this place is a must-visit. I’m already looking forward to my next trip back! Five stars all the way!

Dropped in for a quick bite. I had the roast beef sandwich. It would’ve been better with less salt. The roast potatoes were quite good and plentiful. My side salad had a lemon vinaigrette which was very tasty. Nice beer selection. Excellent iced tea. Server was excellent.

Decided to try Cooper’s for my dad’s 75th birthday, and it was a fantastic decision! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed our food, my fish was flaky and ‘melt in your mouth’ delicious with a great batter and AMAZING malt vinegar aioli. The atmosphere was nice and interesting while our server, Nic C, was friendly and helpful which added to our terrific experience! I wish I had taken pictures of our food, but unfortunately I just snapped this on our way out.

Yum!
We will be back, because I want to try other dishes. The calamari was crispy, and had the sauce in the side. I couldn’t decide but went with the scallops, there are 4 of them, very tasty and the risotto was creamy. My husband didn’t care for his roast beef sandwich as much as I enjoyed my scallops, just not what he expected.
The pina colada, was so delicious it was like a dessert.
Our hostess/ server was extremely friendly.
Glad our friends suggested we come here for dinner.

Dinner update:
Previously stopped in just for dessert which was quite enjoyable (see review below) and that left me interested in coming back for dinner. Sorry to say the entrees and appetizers were average quality and everything was served luke warm. Basically 5 star prices and 3 star food if I had to sum it up quickly. I won’t go into each individual menu item, but nothing met the quality level of the price being charged for it. I wish I had taken some pictures. Everyone in our group was disappointed with their meals. Probably not going back for dinner. Maybe dessert.

Just stopped in for dessert and was happy I did. We shared the cannoli with a cheese cake filling and a giant piece of chocolate cake. The cannoli was my favorite, served warm with whipped cream and a raspberry topping. It was deep fried and reminded me of a warm funnel cake like you might get at the State Fair. The chocolate cake was rich and chocolatey and checked all the chocolate lovers boxes. Took about half of the cake home because it was too big to finish.
Nice atmosphere and friendly servers. Looking forward to returning for dinner or lunch.
