Delicious food! Everything tasted very fresh. Service was excellent, food came out quickly too!

I ordered a wet super burrito with chicken and a green sauce. It wasn’t too spicy, but had a very fresh flavor.

The extra hot sauce was honestly some of the best chilaquiles! Service was great! A new must go, when nearby for me!

Vegan and vegetarian types: i confirmed their rice and beans are both vegan. Get the vegan wet burrito with their mild but delicious homemade hot sauce. If you want more heat add the garlic Tabasco.

i found the ambience about average for a so called traditional authentic place. no frills.

service was fast and was able to confirm plant-based burrito possibilities

if you pay cash its cheaper too!

It was pretty good. Again, not like back home but okay for us (and friendly enough for those with…mild palates and the seasoning-challenged). We got the green chilaquiles and the Montecristo sandwich.

Bf liked the sandwich. The bread was yummy and just sweet enough – but not too overpowering. We missed having Montecristo sandwiches since moving here, so that was very exciting.
It came with fresh fruits that actually tasted good and ripe rather than frozen. Eggs were made to perfection according to request.

I liked the chilaquiles. I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to chilaquiles because nothing beats mom’s homemade breakfasts. Buuut it was delicious and a sizeable portion. I would like it more if they came with a little more salsa verde and sour cream + crumbly cheese. I think you can always ask for that, though, so that’s on me. There’s also no shredded chicken on them, but I think that’s normal at most restaurants. Like my waitstaff coworkers would always say, if ya want it just the way you like it, COOK AT HOME, FOO’!. So, not bad. I also thought it was a little…interesting that it came with an orange on top of the rice. Ah yeah, the rice was good too. Somebody really knows how to make it. My eggs were good as well (over-easy), so it wasn’t a fluke.

There was plenty of seating around 1pm, but it’s a pretty new restaurant so I think it’ll get busier as it gains more traction. We also came in right after peak lunch time. There’s regular tables and booths; indoor and patio seating available.

Overall, I think this place is nice and I hope they get discovered by more locals. The staff was also incredibly friendly and patient, which eased my anxiety since I’m a little hard-of-hearing. Oh yeah, and the menu needs to be updated already, as our two menus looked a bit different from each other and had some incorrect things, like another reviewer said (edited my review to confirm I saw the mistake too). My bf’s menu did not include the Montecristo, but mine did. And NO it was not a breakfast menu vs lunch menu thing. Even the waiter acknowledged that it needed updated, because it is the GENERAL MENU, my dudes. I’d say Señor Chilaquiles lives up to its namesake.

Ordered 3 breakfasts Biscuits, poached eggs, gravy potatoes, with a side order of bacon and the price was over 70 bucks!! The food was bland with no salt and very skimpy for the price. On my plate no potatoes thus credited 4 bucks,

I can go to over 20 other places in Santa Cruz for breakfast where I can’t finish their breakfast. Even mcdonalds has a better breakfast for half the price!

Two huge thumbs down this place is a dumpster fire!!

I feel bad about this review, but I don’t believe the other reviews are honest. I think the 5 star reviews have to be from friends or family or something because they just don’t add up to how the place actually is. This was actually one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. We came in with 4 people and we were the only people there the entire time and it was a friday night. And when I say only, I mean there wasnt a single other table. The server working was terrible at her job and was constantly forgetting things. She seemed to have no clue what was going on. She wrote down our order, disappeared and then came back 10 minutes later to ask us to confirm what we wanted to order. We’re a friendly and open group of people, but the conversation she was trying to make with our table throughout our visit was uncomfortable and has us constantly wondering what was going on. She would forget our drinks, forget items we’d ask for, forget to fill our water. Our food took longer than expected considering we were the only people in there and it was quite honestly the most bland Mexican food I’ve had in all of Santa Cruz county. I truly truly gave this place a chance but after sitting on my feelings about it for a few weeks, I felt it was only fair to write a warning to other people. I believe this business needs to revisit their staff, how their staff are trained and work with the kitchen staff on making their food taste a lot better. I also think they’re doing too much. The menu is massive. There’s no need to offer that much. You don’t need multiple pages of traditional American breakfast items, burgers and Mexican food. And I saw a sign they were hosting a pizza/music night. Scale it back, stick with the basics and perfect what you offer.

Hi everyone I highly recommend this place this the best Mexican food I have ever had in Santa Cruz honestly the best I’ve had ever anywhere! and the best part is that everything is so fresh they make your food fresh nothing is frozen there . This is the only place that I go for Mexican food and me and my family go there quite often it tastes amazing every time ! And even better the employees are awesome super nice . In the outside sitting area is so nice they have an apple tree and their own orange tree and limes !! It’s beautiful.

Food was good, service and misleading menu – not so much. We got 2 “plates of al pastor super tacos” and 1 of “carne asada super taco plate”. The flavor was good, the toppings were nice. Do you think these plates came with sides? No, only two tacos. No rice and beans. Read below if you want the long story.

Beans were good and rice was okay. PLEASE NOTE: beans and rice were NOT included with the “super taco plate” item – although the description states: “Served with a choice of meat, cheese, rice, beans, lettuce,” the toppings were meat, guacamole, lettuce, onions, cilantro and no rice and beans. We assumed it was on the side, just like at any restaurant that serves “taco plates” but they reassured us it is sold separately. We still wanted rice and beans and agreed to have it on the side for only two of the plates. When the check came it was a separate charge. We then asked the waitress if they got it correct – the description mentioned rice and beans and there was none on the tacos. We asked if she is sure it doesn’t come on the side? She went to the back talked to someone and said they are sure and we have it wrong (even though it’s on the menu??). Anyway, they removed the charge for the sides but I want to make sure others know Taco Plates come solely with 2 tacos and nothing on the side. So the beans and rice that are stated on the menu for super taco plate just do not come with the meal, not inside the taco (which would be weird) nor on the side.

I pointed out another item (which we didn’t get but an interesting observation) – a “soft taco” on the menu is 4.95 and “two regular taco plate” is 14.95 which makes zero sense if it doesn’t have rice and beans on the side and they said it’s also correct no rice and beans on the side, it is 4.60$ more expensive than buying them separate.

Tenders were ok and onion rings were good.

The restaurant was clean and atmosphere was nice but the cleaning supplies smell overpowered anything else. I recommend using something less scented as we couldn’t even smell the good tasting food.

Based on the taste alone this would have been a solid 4.5 stars but service, misleading menu, dishonesty of staff and cleaning supplies smell made it less appealing.

Hidden spot behind Cafe Cruz. The food had been tasty every time I’ve eaten here. If you haven’t tried their chilaquiles or biscuits and gravy…you’re missing out.
