Food is great! Sandwiches are MASSIVE but delicious. We had the Corvette Chicken sub. 1/2 is a footlong!!!! Turbo fries are a MUST!!!!! Not sure what’s in that spicy, taste elixir but sign me up for an I.V. of that stuff. Family owned and operated. If you haven’t been there by now your missing out!

The best cheesesteaks in Monroeville! Staff is extremely friendly and the atmosphere is one of a kind! Got the Devil and Z-28 which were phenomenal as always, also tried the turbo sauce which I can only describe as a spicy italian buffalo sauce – highly recommend getting the turbo cheese fries. Been coming here for years and have never been disappointed the food is always delicious!

My first visit and I am blown away. The decor is so cool. The staff is super friendly. But the food is over the top outstanding.
The Grand Sport and Carhop’s Special are how a sub should be done. Great size!
The melted cheese is an excellent touch.

Cash Only and worth every penny.

I am a Philadelphian, and I am proud of that fact. Because of this, I take my cheesesteaks seriously. And try as I might to find a spot in Pittsburgh (or really anywhere outside of Philly/S Jersey) that does a good cheesesteak there’s almost always something missing or worse, something added that just takes away from the simple goodness that defines a cheesesteak.

Luckily, Carhop’s exists. Today I stopped in for lunch for the first time with my family and finally, I have found a restaurant outside Philadelphia that understands how to construct the cheesesteak with honor and dignity. I ordered their Z-28, which is steak, american cheese (no one in their right mind puts cheez-wiz on a steak and if someone says that’s how they do it in Philly they are lying), fried onions, and garlic. I’ll be honest, I was skeptical of the garlic- this is a non-standard cheesesteak addition BUT after eating this sandwich I am wondering why this isn’t a Philly staple??

To say this cheesesteak was phenomenal is an understatement. Everything about it, including the garlic, was perfect. The meat was exactly how it should be, greasy (in a good way!), chopped up fine, with plenty of fried onions and deliciously melty american cheese. The bread, which is where 99% of places outside of Philly go wrong, was incredible. The perfect amount of density and chew that is required in a cheesesteak. So many Pittsburgh shops go wrong by using what I like to call, “angel bread”- bread that is so soft it has no structural integrity and falls apart under the slightest pressure. I don’t know where Carhop’s gets their bread but I’m glad they know that a good sandwich (especially a cheesesteak) starts with good bread.

My boyfriend got the Super Sport, which I had a bite of and it was also great (the pepper relish is AMAZING do not skip it!!!). I’ll probably come back with another review of their other sandwiches, that is, if I ever manage to order something besides the cheesesteak.

Thank you Carhop’s for making Philly feel a little less far away today. I’ll be back, often.

Had two site surveys to do in Monroeville and was thinking about going to ASONY but then remembered they aren’t open for lunch, so tried to decide where I wanted to go and remembered a lot of talk about Carhops. Never make it out here and when I do I wind up at ASONY

This place is old skoool kool a lot of nostalgia from growing up going to car shows and the drag strip with my dad. They take your order when you walk in, I got a foot long cheese steak with American and fried onions, they have a ton of options and toppings. The steak was good quality, I think it’s sirloin and not ribeye but that’s ok, the onions were cooked great and still had some crunch to them too. The bread was soft but also had chew to it, really solid for a local offering.

This is what I expect old school cheesesteaks were like 40+ years ago, it seems timeless and really good quality. The staff were awesome and friendly. Note that it’s cash only but for a 12” with a bottle of water it was only $12 so it’s reasonably priced. Does it push aside common oven? No, but it’s still really good and I like it a little better than uncle Sam’s IMO.

It was just like Westliberty ave, carhops. I just had a sandwich that made me feel 16 again. Thank you. The people working were, just so nice when I told them how excit d I was to eat at one of my favorite childhood places that moved to Monroeville over 20 years ago. Miss this place and it is still the same taste and same same same same full stomach. Thank you.

I used to love Carhops, especially when they were at their previous location. The subs were always tasty. None of that stupid oven-baked (burnt and crusty) that yinzers seem to love. The staff is friendly and personable. BUT, it seems like they are never open. Despite multiple attempts, I have not been able to get there when they are open. It’s a small business so they may be doing what they have to in order to survive. I used to make special trips to get subs there. Then, it became whenever I was nearby, I would try to go to Carhops but like today, here I am and they are closed. I wish them well but my schedule and theirs never match.

Co-workers and I decided to get lunch. They had steak and cheese hoagies and I had the Rueben Sandwich. Just yummy. The bread, the meat, the sauce, the kraut, the portion size…don’t over do it. Pace yourself!! Save some for later. Lives up to the hype. Would definitely get food from them again. Delicious

This place is hands down the best Hoagie shop in the Burgh! Not only are the sandwiches enormous, but very high quality meats, cheese and veggies (if you’re into that sort of thing lol). Also the service is outstanding! I’ve been 4 times only and the owner Lee is one heck of a nice fella and the lady (sorry I don’t know her name) always makes you feel welcome. The atmosphere is another awesome part of this iconic sandwich shop. Who doesn’t love cars and a stroll down memory lane?! I know I do! I highly recommend the Italian with pepper relish and the Alante which is hot sausage and steak! Out of this world delicious.

No need to complain about the price either. Yeah it might say $23 for full size hoagie , but it’s 2 foot long and could easily feed 2-3 or one of me haha…. Trust me, if you haven’t been here? GO RIGHT NOW! (Well not till 11am and they are closed some weekdays) … I will be heading there today for my 5th visit. My favorite part is the feeling you have when you leave, pure happiness (and stuffed!) lol
