Just leaving this establishment and will not be returning. Discovered a piece of what looks like hair wrapped around and fried onto the leg of a drumstick. I went back to the register to bring it to the attention of the cashier. She took the chicken out of my hand, threw it in the trash then walked off and began serving another customer all without saying a word. When I asked her if she was going to address my concerns she said she was going to give me another piece of chicken. As if I would want another piece of chicken from the same batch??? I told her no thanks. She proceeded to tell me she couldn’t give me a refund because her manager wasn’t there and that it’s the chicken or nothing because “that isn’t the way she served it” to me. Basically accusing me of putting it in the chicken?!! It was breaded and fried into the chicken with a piece sticking out. At this point another employee stepped in. She was miraculously able to give me a refund. Aside from the “hair in chicken” incident, the food was meh. The roti wasn’t authentic and had about 20 very large allspice berries throughout. It was difficult to enjoy after biting into several of the bitter berries. It’s been a while since my last visit and the service and food quality has deteriorated. Very disappointing.

I went for the lunch special. I got the brown stew chicken, it was good. My only complaint was it wasn’t enough meat to go with the sides. It was good and flavorful. I will go back.

I’ll say this… leaving 5 stars because the portion size was great, she was patient while I was trying to figure out what I wanted, and the environment was clean and nice.

I got the oxtail with rice and peas and mac n cheese. The only thing I was a fan of was that the sauce on the oxtails was TOO sweet. It honestly was a step away from just plain ole barbecue sauce. I feel like oxtails are too expensive to have such a basic and sweet sauce. I wasn’t expecting the mac and cheese to be home cooked BUT it was much better than most other restaurants mac and cheese… I’ll give it that. Rice & peas tasted perfect, just like how my Jamaican friend’s mom used to make it.

I’d come back, but I’d try a different meat.

Update: I came back and tried the curry goat! It was fantastic and the exact flavor I had actually expected from the oxtail. Savory, not sweet. Perfect! I’d also reccomend the collard greens.

I’m extremely disappointed with the communication and customer service. I placed an order for two velvet cakes and instead of providing even half of the cakes or properly resolving the issue, I was still charged without receiving what I paid for.

If something was out of stock, I — as the customer — should have received a call before any changes were made to my order. Making adjustments without notifying me and then still charging me is completely unacceptable.

The only positive part of this experience was the delivery driver. I truly wish I had gotten his name so I could give him the recognition he deserves. He genuinely tried his best to advocate on my behalf and get the situation resolved. Unfortunately, despite his efforts, we were unable to come to an agreement.

Clear communication and basic customer service go a long way. Sadly, this experience fell far below expectations. I won’t be returning as I was a regular.

I had a wonderful experience at Irie Cafe! The lady who assisted me was very welcoming and polite. Even though she was in the middle of cleaning, she made sure to wash her hands before handling anything, which I really appreciated. The food was fresh and delicious, even though closing time was just an hour away. The music added to the great atmosphere, making the visit even more enjoyable. I can’t wait to go back!

I’ve been here several times and the food is good, definitely better than most of the chain Jamaican restaurants in the area. The oxtail and brown stew snapper are good. Portions are not too small, but not large either! Would definitely recommend giving them a try.

I’m highly disappointed in the quality of the Oxtail and the response I received after telling the server that I was not satisfied with the quality. For $28 I got four fatty oxtail with oily gravy. The food looked, smelled & taste like dog food. There was no spice to the oxtail in fact it taste like straight barbecue sauce. I called the store and the young lady told me “no manager was available “ I told her I would call in the morning and asked for a managers name… she hesitated and refused to give it to me. It’s two things in life I don’t play about and that’s my money or my food. This issue will get resolved thank God I used a credit card so I will definitely be disputing this. I hope the quality of the kitchen doesn’t reflect the quality of the food because I will be calling Maryland health department about this hole in the wall food. Save your money and time! DO NOT EAT HERE. If you want real Jamaican food go to JAM DOUNG

I had thd Jerk Chicken entree, which was around $16~17 dollars, excluding the drink.

For an establishment that’s serves precooked food from a hot pan, it took shockingly long to get the food. At a very standard dinner window on a Friday, they were out of virtually all their food, to the extent that every person in the line behind me had to order a different meal than the last, because they were out of everything. Even the soda machine was down.

The chicken was on the dry side, and fully boned making it very difficult to eat with the plastic utensils, and the cabbage they served it with was not particularly appetizing. The sides provided don’t adequately balance the jerk spice, so the meal just accumulates heat.

The food was mid and the service was okay (not greasy but not bad either) I ordered oxtails with rice and peas with cabbage and dumplings. Overall the experience was good and I would go back once I try the other Caribbean sots in the area.

This is one of my go to spots within the DMV! I love the brown stew chicken and I always get a chicken patty and rum cake. The food is always fresh/ affordable. The juices are really good too. I wish the sizes of the cups could be bigger. Love this spot!
