TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A. In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

We stopped here for a bite on a road trip. We were going to go to Chick-fil-a, but decided to try out Dave’s. And man, it was the best fast food experience of my life!
From the moment we walked up the counter, Irish took our order and was the friendliest worker we’ve ever met. I ordered a medium spice combo meal, but I was curious as to how intense the “reaper” option was. She offered to let me try a nugget (for free), but I politely declined (to protect my stomach).
The food was delectable. Super hot, juicy, and the seasoning was insanely good. But about halfway through our meal, the district manager, Adam, offered the nugget once more. As this happened, a group of teenagers next to us popped the “reaper” level spice nuggets into their mouths (courtesy of Adam), and hell broke loose.
Running around, banging on the table, rinsing mouths with water… It was a joy to watch. Adam gave them some free milkshakes after. And no, I decided not to eat the reaper nugget myself.
But man, a 10/10 experience. Awesome employees, delicious food, and an amazing vibe.

Don’t sleep on Dave’s Hot Chicken you guys! They finally opened a brand-new location in Bloomington, Illinois, and let me tell you—this is some of the freshest hot chicken I’ve ever had. This was only my second time trying Dave’s (the first was in Springfield), and once again, it absolutely caught me off guard in the best way.
First of all, their chicken strips are NOT small, so be prepared. When you order a slider, don’t think you’re getting some tiny sandwich—this thing is full-size and loaded. The kale slaw adds the perfect amount of flavor and crunch, especially when paired with Dave’s sauce… such a good combo. The fries are also fantastic—almost perfect. I personally like mine just a little crispier, but the seasoning on them is so good it doesn’t exactly matter lol
And yes… we’re talking about the pickles too. Perfect pickles. They add that extra bite and flavor that pushes the sandwich right over the edge to perfection. Oh and I almost forgot to mention my son wanted to try the macaroni and cheese so bad that he went up there and ordered a side of it, we all shared it. It was good, the noodles tasted just a little bit well done, and it smelled like velveeta.
This place definitely gets crowded, but for good reason—it’s a hot, popular spot and people know their chicken is fresh and amazing. There’s plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, and I absolutely love the graffiti artwork on the walls. The bright, bold colors are so inviting, it almost makes you want to come inside before you even smell the food.
If you haven’t been here yet, do yourself a favor and get over here and check it out. It’s great!

These light mild chicken bites are my new safe food. I can’t handle spice, but want to. This flavor is just right for me. The boneless bites are always juicy and fresh when eating in. The outside is always a very thin coating of bread which is just top tier. The customer service is 10/5, they’re always super nice to us.
Atmosphere, it can get very crowded and busy. It has a lot of songs with saxophone and trumpets which hurts autistic ears.
Service: not really counts cause it’s all pick up at the counter and you need to ask for forks but they are very accommodating.
The 10 piece bites are very reasonable priced at $7 without fries.

Holy hell friendly! When you’re greeted before you even enter the building, at the counter and a friendly goodbye when leaving. They were super busy being the grand opening, but they are handling the flow very nicely.
The fries are crispy and well seasoned. The chicken sandwich is crunchy with enough spice to make your nose water (I ordered mild)
The Dave’s sauce is a perfect addition to the fries and chicken!

Good first experience at Dave’s. Employees were nice, friendly, and well trained. It was really crowded inside and drive thru was busy as well and they still got my order out in about 15 minutes which was impressive. Food tasted great while hot, but leftovers didn’t reheat well in the oven later at night. The hot and extra hot heat levels were just perfect for me, but most won’t be able to handle extra hot! Their mac and cheese was good as well. Prices seemed okay relative to portion size.

Worked with Iris and Dan up front… Spectacular service. Dan went above and beyond. The food was delicious and I was thankful Dan took the time to help me with the menu. Tenders were better than canes or chick fil-a. Thanks for a good lunch guys.

I should start by saying I am a fried chicken snob. I’ve worked in a fried chicken restaurant. It was probably one you’ve never heard of, but the chicken was excellent.
We had never been to Dave’s Hot Chicken, but there’s always a long line at the drive thru so we thought we’d give it a try when we noticed the line was fairly short.
From the drive thru window the place seemed very clean and the staff we dealt with were very pleasant.
They only serve chicken tenders and nuggets (which are the tenders cut up) with an assortment of sides. If you only serve one thing, you gotta make it great, right?
Apparently not. The fries were good, as was the chicken. But it wasn’t great. We make better at home.
The sauces were very good but nothing not easily made at home (or bought at any grocery store).
$13.00 for 2 chicken tenders and fries seems kinda pricey for chicken that’s only good. With tax that came to $30+ dollars for the 2 of us for a takeout meal. Plenty of decent chicken places give you better value with as good or better food. Value-wise i found it similar to Raising Cane’s. Good food but not worth the price. Personally I prefer Chick-fil-A to both, and I only go there when someone I’m with really wants to. The best chicken I have found in this town so far is Pizza Ranch. Don’t laugh until you try it.
No plans to return to Dave’s Hot Chicken.
