We’ve been coming to The Rat Trap for five years now, and every visit reminds us why we keep coming back! This local gem never misses a beat when it comes to great food and welcoming vibes. Our latest stop was no exception—Chelsea greeted us with a smile and took great care of us.

This time, we tried the weekly French dip sandwich, and it was absolutely loaded with tender beef and all the tasty fixings. So flavorful and satisfying! We paired it with a large order of their homemade macaroni salad, which was creamy, delicious, and perfectly chilled. ❄️

I would recommend calling in your order, so you don’t have to wait in the long line. Otherwise, arrive after 1 pm to have the place to yourself. As you stand in line, grab your drinks and chips. I would recommend having the cheese shop have order slips ready for the customers to fill out while they stand in line. On the barrel by the door would be an ideal spot. Literally still in my car outside of this place after devouring my sandwich. WOW. I’m not generally a roast beef fan but I will for sure be coming back. RB with onion, melted provolone, mayo and 50/50 sauce on sweet soft roll. The size of the half sandwich for the price is generous. Won’t need to ever go back to beach hut that sells you a puny 3” for almost $10. The girl behind the counter was super helpful trying to help me decide on my first sandwich. Will definitely be coming back!

Excellent deli sandwiches, the best I’ve ever had. Their potato salad is pretty yummy too. Great, friendly staff, even when they’re super busy (daily). The photo below is their signature Rat Trap, a combination of three meats of their choosing and two cheeses of their choosing on your choice of bread (but traditionally Dutch Crunch).

I grew up in Newcastle and want to support small businesses here, however, this place is gross. Staff is rude and the place smells really bad. The sandwiches are large but basic- nothing homemade. If you want bulk food prepared in kitchen with questionable sanitation, go for it. I’m not.
