Friend who tried Cap’t Loui in Cape Cod highly recommended it when she saw it open in Sunnyside, Queens. Prices are good, so you don’t have to wait to treat yourself only on special occasions. The Capt’n Loui sauce boil was really good and 1 pound per person was very filling. The garlic noodles as a side was delicious, and we tried it dipped in the boil’s sauce, too. Service was spectacular. Minh Kha gave us his favorites as suggestions and cleaned up after us well. All of my favorite pop tunes were playing as well. Thoroughly enjoyed and will be back.

Stopped by Cap’t Loui Seafood Boil in Sunnyside and tried the shrimp po boy. It was ok nothing special, but not bad either. The shrimp were decent and the sandwich did the job if you’re craving something quick. The fries were a bit soggy, but they did have a nice lemon pepper flavor that helped. Overall, it’s an average spot and fine for a casual bite if you’re already in the area

This review is not written with the intention of harming any business, especially not businesses in my neighborhood. On the contrary, I hope it can be taken as an opportunity to improve. I understand how expensive everything has become — products, food, staff, maintenance, and rent.
That said, I’m sharing my experience as it was.
The place is large and when we arrived it was almost empty, with only a couple of tables occupied. Even so, we waited 30 to 40 minutes for our food to arrive.
We ordered lobster and sandwiches. The lobster was very small, and the sandwiches were unfortunately bland and nothing special. The best part of the meal was definitely the fries.
The service was average. For such a large place with very few customers, we expected more attention. It also started raining, so we stayed at the table longer, but no one came by to ask if we wanted to order anything else to make the wait more pleasant.
I’m happy to see businesses grow in my area, but it’s also disappointing to notice that after COVID, customer service and food quality have declined in many restaurants.
If you decide to visit, go with patience and be aware of the long waiting times. Hopefully this review helps the place improve, because the space and location are there — it’s just a matter of paying more attention to the details.

It was our first time trying seafood boil and this place did not disappoint! Their house sauce was absolutely chef’s kiss along with everything else. And the staff here is truly wonderful! They made a slight mistake with our order and we ended up getting complimentary dessert from them! Many other restaurants I have been to do not even bother doing that so I was truly appreciative of them. 10/10 I recommend this place especially if it’s your first time!

The seafood boils with a mild Cajun flavor were spot-on. All the employees, including the manager Alex, were kind and attentive. The wide, high ceilings and spacious atmosphere made the experience well worth it for both the flavor and the vibe. I really like quiet atmosphere so I can have conversation with my friend.

Had an amazing seafood meal here. The lobster and calamari were cooked perfectly – fresh, tasty, and full of flavor. The cold beer was the perfect match. Great food, nice atmosphere, and friendly service. Definitely a place worth coming back to!

First time dining at Cap’t Loui Seafood Boil and I’m impressed!
The seafood was super fresh, the seasoning was flavorful and really soaked in, especially their signature sauce—it’s addictive. Service was friendly and the atmosphere felt cozy, perfect for family or friends. The garlic bread was also a hit! Definitely coming back whenever I crave seafood boil.”

The oysters could have been cleaned better, but everything else was very satisfying. The food was delicious, and the staff were very friendly. We enjoyed our meal very much 🙂

The ONLY reason I’m leaving a 5 Star review is literally the impeccable service from Ian. I follow this place on Instagram and have been so excited to come finally try this place since moving to Sunnyside recently. I came on Tuesday, for their $1.50 oysters and ended up ordering 2 dozen, great value! I ordered a bottle of wine after trying to order a martini, haha, bummer, no bar here, and NO BYOB… yikes. So $35 for a bottle of cheap Chardonnay, ok, that’s still pretty great value. (Just don’t come alone as a single woman) hopefully you have someone to share it with because they don’t sell wine by the glass here. Now, to the big order! I ordered 3 lbs of seafood… or did I? I’m a southerner, so I was looking forward to this seafood crawfish and seafood boil place since that’s my favorite, their competition is LITERALLY Nextdoor at the weirdly titled ‘Mad for Chicken’, that has the best fabulous seafood boils, tasty, and at great value. I say this because it took me awhile to come in here with the atmosphere from the streets looking in, always bright lights (like a cafeteria) and empty, if there is people, it’s usually small children in addition. Now that I finally came in, I love the soundtracks of music, all the best songs you want to sing along to!
But let’s get to the food: I’m including a receipt and pictures of food. I ordered 3 lbs of seafood. I DEFINITELY DIDN’T RECEIVE 3 LBS OF SEAFOOD, BUT I CERTAINLY GOT THE BILL. $243.11
The King Crab that I am paying $115.47 for 1 lb. What is a good price for king crab per pound? As of 2024, the king crab price per pound typically ranges between $30 and $60, depending on the size, quality, and where it’s purchased. These prices reflect the costs for the red king crab variety, which is the most commonly consumed and highly prized. My $1115.47 came out in shreds and at parts were so discolored; that is telling of EXPIRED OLD VERY OLD FROZEN KING CRAB, the only reason it could be that old is because not everyone comes in here and orders a pound of the ridiculously pricey crab, I did, and unfortunately it was a complete disappointment. I grew up on the gulf, so I hope you can understand my palate and love for seafood and its value is expert. I LIVE FOR SEAFOOD.
Moving onto the half a pound of clams that only came with four in the bag! Again, FOUR CLAMS to equal half a pound! It was a bad note.
The half a pound of scallops were absolutely incredible, thank goodness!
Finally, I ordered 1 pound of crawfish. They were so old and barely had any meat in them. They were shriveled up, and I can tell you that was not a whole pound of crawfish, not even close. I feel jipped and absolutely robbed by the greedy owners of this place.
Next-door when I order at the Mad Chicken, I can have leftovers from this kind of order of 3 lbs of seafood!!!
So I can tell you, I enjoyed what I enjoyed here, and I made it very thorough with my feedback and clarified what that was here, so now I know one day a week of when to come here and who to ask for and what to order.
My total with $50 tip to the incredible IAN who should be working in a Michelin Star Restaurant, he’s superb!
Total: $243.11 + Tip= 293.11
NEVER AGAIN.
Management: DO BETTER!
