The food was tasty but salty. Both dishes we got were tasty but there was not enough meat or shrimp bc the prices range from $18-$19 so you expect a certain amount of food. The decor could use some modernization from the 80-90s feel. Street parking only and either you pay on the app or find free street parking which is nearby but you need to be lucky. The wait staff were nice and accommodating.

My family and I have been coming here for quite some time, and the food has always been excellent, which makes this experience especially disappointing. Unfortunately, after what happened during my most recent visit, we will not be returning.
After our meal, we ordered tea and soon received our check. Around that time, we asked our waitress for an additional teacup. When she returned with the check, she had forgotten the request, which is completely understandable — mistakes happen. However, when we politely reminded her, she laughed, pointed toward the back where dishes were stacked, and told us to go get it ourselves.
We were genuinely taken aback and thought she might be joking, but she walked away and never returned. What made the interaction feel even more disheartening was that her attitude seemed to change the moment the check was paid and she had received her tip. It gave the impression that once payment was complete, our experience no longer mattered.
We had been nothing but kind and respectful throughout the visit and had even left a generous tip before that interaction. Had we known we would be treated that way, our experience — and our tip — would have reflected it.
That level of dismissiveness toward customers is unacceptable and disappointing.

Incredible food and wonderful customer service! Our lovely server recommended the egg tofu with pea tips and beef short ribs with black pepper sauce. And she was right! Both dishes were authentic and satisfying. The tofu was so flavorful and the beef was tender. The owner shared with us that this is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. We will definitely be back to support!

We really wanted to give this place a higher rating but it is outdated and needs an upgrade in multiple ways. I could tell this restaurant was a premier restaurant back in the day many years ago. But to start with the atmosphere, there are no windows and the only sunlight that shines through is from the front door that you enter. Secondly, the Mongolian beef which is recommended by our waitress is supposedly to be one of their best dishes on the menu and this was just mediocre because it was cooked with food starch powder and the meat wasn’t marinated long enough. Their steamed pork buns.小籠包 was poor. The outside buns were thick and the pork stuffings were large and not tasty. The egg plant dish was ok. It was mentioned to us that they made the eggplant dish specifically for Chinese folks who would like how it is made. But I can tell you it was just mediocre. We even found a hair in the dish. I knew they tried. But they need a serious upgrade in all areas.

the decor is more than a decade old but the food is really authentic tasty chinese cuisine from the past that it’s very hard to find nowaday.

This is our “go to” old fashioned Chinese restaurant. It’s stuck in the 70’s decor is still inviting. The thick gravy with tons of corn starch reminds me of my youth.
It’s clean and friendly and never to crowded (except on Thanksgiving and New Years eve).
The prices are very reasonable and the service is quick. Very reliable. I usually get Moo shu and my friend always gets eggfoo young.

Evergreen is one of the older restaurants in the Old Chinatown area serving a diverse, expansive menu of primarily Cantonese staples. While I really liked some dishes (namely, the Fried Egg Tofu and Fried Taro Basket), other dishes were just so-so. The interior is arranged in classic, spacious Chinese banquet style, and the service is quick and direct.

Food I tried:
– Wonton Soup: Refreshing and aromatic, but there are better wonton soup options out there in Chinatown.

– Fried Egg Tofu with Pea Pod Tips: Really good and would recommend!! Pea pod tips were well-sautéed; the egg tofu was full of flavor and had a great crispy exterior texture combined with a soft, silky interior texture.

– Szechuan Eggplant: As a lover of Chinese-style sautéed eggplants, I was disappointed by this dish. The mix of eggplants with American broccoli didn’t work for me, and the eggplant wasn’t soft / fried enough.

– Deep Sea in Basket: This is a creative dish that I haven’t seen before in other restaurants in Chinatown— it’s sautéed seafood placed in a “basket” made of taro. The basket was the best part in my opinion— it was both soft and crunchy, and had a nice subtle taro flavor, like eating taro chips.

– Mongolian Delight: This was a standard, but very solid and flavorful dish of sautéed veggies and beef. The beef was tender and the flavors were rich.

– Thai Pineapple Shrimp: Didn’t love this dish; it was originally supposed to be mango shrimp, but they ran out of mango and substituted pineapple. I didn’t love the monotonous flavor combination of the sour/tangy pineapple with the mildly sour/tangy sauce.

Split between 4 people, the total came out to ~$30/pp including tax/tip, which was solid considering we were all extremely full afterwards and still had leftovers to take home.

One of the best Chinese restaurant in USA for me. Large and clean seating area. Staffs are really helpful with the order and they are English communication so well. Food are superb with fresh ingredients. Fish are really good also the oyster. I don’t know the name just give them the picture they will understand. Street parking is ok. Their location far from clouded area in chinatown.

Excellent variety of high quality Chinese food well appreciated by many people of Chinese heritage that I know. I recommend the Bird’s Nest and also the BBQ Chow Fun. Others seemed to really appreciate the lobster, fish, and steak dishes. Those shrimp chips are also very popular with those of Chinese heritage. When I peaked in the empty teapot I could actually see the large loose green tea leaves.

I have eaten from here twice. The first time I was on the search for good take out in Chicago because a lot of places are not good anymore. Our take out was absolutely delicious, every bit was super tasty and nobody got the bubble guts after so a win is a win! At the time, I said the decor is awful in here, but who cares because you don’t eat the decor… but I guess it does matter because upon a china town visit with friends the wait at the more popular Triple Crown was too long so I suggested Evergreen. Upon walking in, they were like “no way let’s leave” because it was completely empty and the decor is seriously from the early 90s. But I assured them… the food was good! And it was good, minus the dumplings and some bland noodles. The waiter was a bit stern, very old school, and she was all about her tip. We tip so I don’t like being asked, told or suggested what the tip should be ever… and considering the fact that no one was in the restaurant; I’ll gotta have better decorum than that. Please find a young nephew or niece who can bring the atmosphere and customer service into 2025. I will return… for takeout only! For As long as they remain in business… best of luck to them.
