I really wanted to love this place but didn’t. My overall impression is that their prices are through the roof while their execution left a good bit to be desired.

Sangria – we ordered one red and one white. Not a single piece of fruit to be found in either and overly sweet. Well north of $10 a glass and just lacking.

Sikil Pak – possibly the best bite of the night. A small cup of this ground pumpkin seed appetizer served with chips. The flavor was big and bold. The texture was a coarse grind and it is not to be missed. At $8 it is a bit steep for what you get but certainly should not be missed. Order this!

Pulpo – the flavors were right on but the octopus was a bit overcooked and rubbery as a result. I did like the chili oil drizzle but could see where others would consider it an attempt to obscure the flavor of the octopus. Portion size matched the price.

Tamal – just disappointing. The masa was dry, the fillings lacking in quantity and poorly distributed through the tamal. Not at all a $12 dish.

Flan – quite good but the texture was a bit strange and more like a thick pudding than a custard. The raspberry reduction was outstanding.

Service was a bit of a trainwreck. Our appetizer showed up before our place settings and I’m pretty sure the second item to hit the table arrived before the drinks. Our third item arrived before the second one had been consumed and I had to tell the waitress not to let the kitchen send out the last dish until we had finished the one in front of us. Just clunky all around but our server did recognize that the wife was not drinking her sangria and asked about it. It was comped but we still dropped $90 on what you see listed above and nothing more.

We were in and out in a not much more than 30 minutes. Based on the price point, the pace of service seemed quite odd. The waitress even attempted to drop the check without asking if we wanted dessert.

Bon Appetit named them one of the top 10 new restaurants in America in 2017 and I wish I had visited at that point. I caught signs of that level of brilliance in some of the items we tried but there was too much wrong with the entire experience to go more than 3 stars.

Nixta is located in the St. Louis’s Delmar Maker District. It’s has an adorable vibe, excellent service, but the food was good but the ceviche left more to be desired. We ordered the ceviche with tuna and the carne asada tacos. The ceviche tasted a bit fishy. It was beautifully presented and I was excited to see the large substantial chunks of tuna. However, I think the larger chunks may have held the fishy flavor. It also comes with a small tostada shell and could benefit from a side of chips and a lime wedge.
The carne asada tacos were traditional smaller street tacos in a corn tortilla with a generous serving of carne asada that was well seasoned.

I went in for a to-go order. The atmosphere was LOVELY. The ambiance from the lighting to the decor was on point. My server was VERY nice. I ordered the Baja fish tacos and the frijoles pintos. The tacos were SO DELICIOUS – the sauce and the Napa cabbage were a perfect match and the fish was cooked perfectly – even after the drive home. The beans had a WONDERFUL flavor and were perfectly dressed – I didn’t know pinto beans could be that tasty! Disclaimer: You get WAY more beans than that – I forgot to take a picture until I had devoured almost half of them. I will DEFINITELY be going back to Nixta!

I’ve been wanting to check out the new Nixta that recently reopened in Delmar Maker District. We finally dined here on Tuesday night. It’s a gorgeous restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating options. I’m obsessed with Nixta’s interior design, from selecting the perfect tables/chairs to creating a vibrant, Instagrammable dining space with inviting atmosphere. They also played very very good music. It definitely made my night more enjoyable.
I was craving for seafood, and Nixta definitely delivered. We ordered guacamole, Baja cod tacos, mixto ceviche, tamales, and churros. For me, the real winner at Nixta would be the mixto Mexican ceviche. It’s a perfect balance of acidity, heat, and freshness. Guacamole was heavenly good. The cod in Baja tacos was crispy fried but lacking of taste, and texture.
Service was friendly and attentive. Jonathan, the manager also brought out gelato for my son. He was so kind and welcoming. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience at Nixta. We loved it and will definitely come back. Highly recommended!

Came down for the Cinco de Mayo block party. Had an absolute blast sitting at the bar and taking in the whole vibe. The staff were wonderful, recommended some great drinks and a mezcal flight. Very busy event but they took great care of us!

I don’t even know where to start with this review…. The restaurant is very hot, humid, and muggy. Not sure what the vibe and atmosphere was supposed to be? Mexican restaurant with beach decor?
And good luck if you’re ordering salsa AND guacamole, you only get one basket of chips (not even filled up all the way) for $4 and $8 for guacamole. Couldn’t even finish them because we ran out of chips. The ceviche comes with ONE singular chip for the whole bowl. Just not a good experience at all. Especially at the price, I would skip this one.

Ignore the reviews from the prior location – the old nixta is dead. The food used to be great; it’s now mildly bad bar food. The chips appeared to be two different bags of store bought chips mixed into a bowl (see different shape and style in photo)… so disappointing and frankly pretty wild to do that. Even if they claim made in house, I promise you won’t think that. The salsa was pretty good but literally was served in a shot glass-style cup with a teeny tiny spoon?

The reopened Nixta on Delmar is a delight! We enjoyed our guacamole app, hamachi aguachile, mixto ceviche, al pastor tacos, & carne asada tacos. Everything was tasty but the tacos were particularly outstanding. The sweet and savory balance from the al pastor tacos left us craving another helping. We cannot wait to return and try a few more dishes off the revamped menu. Bravo, Ben! This new location is sure to be a hit.

Very disappointing food. Everything was bland. Ordered the chicken adobado, the chicken was well cooked, but there was no adobado, and no seasoning. I was still hungry after eating this $30 dish, so I also ordered tacos al pastor. These were dry, served in a single cold tortilla, flavorless, no salsa, and very expensive. My dining companion ordered the shrimp empanada. It was the same story, small, little flavor, expensive. On top of all this, they sneak a 15% service charge on the bill and still add a line for an additional tip. We will not return.
