Josh’s Deli – Surfside – a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant
Reviews
I spent a lot of time looking for a place that serves homemade corned beef and I am so happy I found Josh’s Deli in Surf Side! This is my go-to place now!
We came in on a Sunday around lunch time and we ordered the corned beef hash and pastrami sandwich! And they were everything and more of what we were expecting! The portions are huge! So come in with an appetite.
The staff were friendly and took good care of us. I must admit we did have a bit of a wait but we understood since the place is small and they receive a lot of to-go orders. The stuff offered us some complimentary french fries because we had to wait, but we were too full the gesture was what matters though!
We are definitely coming back here again!
FYI: the place closes on Saturdays because of Shabbat.
What to eat, I had to do the French toast and my wife had the pancakes. Toppings, bananas or chocolate chips, can’t decide so both it is. My wife had the Strawberry pancakes.
My only complaint is the chef made chocolate chip pancakes, so I had extra food to eat, my diet will start next week.
The pancakes texture, incredible and I’m NOT a pancake fan. The French toast, wow, no syrup was need.
Our server, the manager, was very nice.
If you don’t give this place a chance, you are a fool.
Enjoy, you’ll thank me
The food was honestly inedible. My French dip sandwich was filled with fatty, gummy pieces of meat that made it impossible to enjoy. I had to pick through it, and even then, it just wasn’t good. The pastrami Reuben had the thinnest, most skimpy layer of pastrami I’ve ever seen — especially for a deli that’s supposed to specialize in this. It felt more like bread with a hint of meat than an actual Reuben. The BLT was just as bad — the bacon was poorly cooked and the sandwich overall was bland and underwhelming.
To make matters worse, our waitress spilled our $6 Coca-Cola and didn’t offer to replace it. No apology beyond a quick acknowledgment, no effort to make it right. Then we noticed an automatic 18% gratuity added to the bill without being told upfront.
Between the poor food quality, lack of service recovery, and automatic tip, this was a frustrating and overpriced experience. Definitely not worth the money, and unfortunately not somewhere I’d return.
Just wanted to add, this is not a paid review, really pathetic that someone would bash a place like this. I just went here with my husband and it’s awesome, never met Josh, but his food rocks, so please don’t take what one disgruntled reviewer posted, go try it urself and ull be quite impressed!!
If you are in a different part of the city and thinking to make a drive, it’s not worth it.
Not recommending the meat sandwich. The baguette was delicious but meat was a bit chewy. Still this is a must try small shop.
