Chinatown eatery serving Sichuan specialties alongside traditional Chinese dishes.

A nice experience overall. Food is good especially those Chinese food that’s rare to find in usual American restaurants such as the duck, and it’s cooked pretty good.

I’ve grown up eating at the Chinatown location but I decided to give this place a try. I’m so glad I did. I’ve been looking for a good Chinese takeout spot on the Northshore and this is both a takeout and a fancier/special occasion eat in spot as well. It was very easy for me to order online from their website . I ordered during the arctic storm and they had my food ready very promptly. Staff was super kind . I got their lunch special which was so affordable . Highly recommend! It comes with white/fried rice and an eggroll or crab Rangoon . Crab Rangoon was huge ! If you are dining in, a soup is included . Lunch was about $12 for a lot of good quality super flavorful food. Normally the fried rice that comes with lunch specials at other Chinese restaurants are sub par but not here . The fried rice was super flavor . I’m a spice fanatic . I ordered the extra spicy and got chili oil on the side . Perfect for the -9 temps ! I have family members who don’t like spice and Lao Szechuan caters to them as well . Their mild entrees are just as flavorful but without the heat from the chilis . Perfect for everyone . I plan on replacing the Chinatown location with this one . Easy parking is a plus.

April 1, 2025 – Went to Lao Sze Chuan for an early birthday dinner celebration with family.
We started with crab rangoon as an appetizer, followed by a variety of dishes:
Combination fried rice
Combination chow mein
Crispy shrimp with lemon sauce
Sautéed garlic pork chop
Mongolian beef
Chef’s special dry chili chicken
Pea pod leaves with fresh garlic
Overall, the food was flavorful, with the chef’s special dry chili chicken standing out as a favorite. However, the Mongolian beef was surprisingly sweet, and some of the pea pod leaf stems were a bit tough to chew.
Despite these minor issues, we had a great time. The ambience was pleasant, and the staff was attentive, making for an enjoyable dining experience at Lao Sze Chuan.

I ordered the chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, orange chicken, and vegetables—and every single dish was packed with flavor, fresh, and perfectly cooked. The chicken was tender, the sauces were rich without being overwhelming, and the fried rice was spot-on. Everything tasted like it was made with care. I would recommend this place to absolutely everyone looking for delicious, quality Chinese food. I’ll definitely be coming back!

I think it’s one of the most authentic Chinese cuisine in the Northern Suburbs of Chicago, located in Skokie, IL! We’re there about 3 years ago and just went there again and it was still very good! The portion size is decent and the price went up approximately $3 for some of the dishes, which is not too bad! Service was great!

Their food is spectacular! I used to order from them all the time and finally decided to pay a visit and go to eat in the restaurant. Place looks cool, modern and warm. Before we ordered we got complimentary “spicy cabbage”, we couldn’t stop eating it! It was so fresh with perfect amount of oil, but very spicy, what we liked! We ordered few entrees and appetizers to share all at once! Fried rice is perfect, not to greasy with lots of fresh veggies. Salt and pepper squid is amazing dish, that we can never skip, not fried too much, salty enough, but not too much.. Also never trued dry szechuan sausage, reminded us of European dried pork sausage, but Chinese is more spiced and salty! We love food from this place, but service could do bit better as other people mentioned, nothing negative to say about it, but nothing positive either. All in all 5/5 place!

Lao Sze Chuan dishes are always fresh and flavorful. There is so much to choose from on the menu but everything has always been good.

I have been coming here for years. The ambiance is great. The dry chilli chicken is amazing as is at their other locations. The owner of this location does a great job with her staff and ensuring the quality of food is consistent. This is my go-to in the area.

Wow, we had such a delicious Chinese cuisine dinner 4 days ago and we ended up going there to enjoy dinner last night again. I would like to add, I’ve never enjoy Chinese food from any Chinese restaurant this much for last 20 plus years.
Great delicious food with not so good service, they close restaurant at 9 and we walked in right at 8pm, when we entered the restaurant, we’re told, they’re closing at 9 and then our server repeatedly said that they’re closing at 9pm. This was not comfortable for us, when we’re finishing our dinner, we noticed, someone start moping the floor just a couple of feet away from our table.
Besides that food and atmosphere was excellent. If you can handle this kind of service then this’s the place (Restaurant) for good delicious Chinese food to go.
I will still recommend this restaurant.

I was told, “If you like spicy, try LaoSzeChuan.”
And I did. The atmosphere when you walk in was authentic. The waitor brought us spicy cabbage and ice water instantly. After a few, the waitress came to take our order. I had the chicken with spicy garlic sauce, and my husband had general taos chicken (lunch specials). The food was very well seasoned and cooked fresh. The vegetables were fresh and very delicious. We really enjoyed our lunch date, at our new favorite chinese spot!
