My friends and I made a reservation to celebrate a friends’ 30th birthday. Most of us have never been to Splash before so we were excited. While the food was good, the service was unbelievably bad.
The servers were upselling on everything, but making it unclear whether it was an up charge or part of the meal we ordered. For example, multiple people were prompted to order soup or salad with their meal and ended up with an additional $15 Caesar salad. Two people ordered a cup of soup as a side and got charged for a $22 additional bowl of soup side. Some people in our party ordered a glass of wine, but were served and charged for a quartino. One person specifically said they didn’t want any add ons for their meal — the server asked if they liked mushrooms, they said yes… proceeded to add mushrooms at a $10 upcharge. One person asked for dessert to come with cake and candles (for the birthday girl) and it never came. Two people ordered a tuna dish and received two different dishes. One person changed their order to a scallop dish and didn’t get the correct dish because there were 2 scallop dishes and the server didn’t clarify or ask.
We were all charged an automatic 20% automatic gratuity — but it seemed like the servers were only interested in upcharging us to make money. We voiced our concerns about up charges and they were dismissed and excused by saying the server pointed out up charges to us… which they did not.
Very upset. Would never tell any one to dine there based on our poor service experience. Additionally, one plate of seabass was overcooked, and a plate of scallops were undercooked. And for $50 a plate, we would all expect better. We spent $250 for two of us, and were very underwhelmed.
The food was really good, we tried the Crab Cakes, Oysters Rockefeller, a seafood pasta and miso salmon. All were very nice.
The price was a little high for the quality however, just seemed a bit stretched on a few of the offerings for sure. Drinks as a whole were about 14-18 dollars which seems a bit much.
The decor seemed a little dated but still a great spot for a date.
The service was excellent and attentive and waitress was more than happy to take on any requests.
The chocolate cake with ice cream added at the end was fantastic.
I asked beforehand, then three times during our dinner and never received. Instead our server was prioritizing being passive aggressive to our friend who they unknowingly to us, overcharged.
Never received the candles I purchased myself back or even the decency of providing what I asked for, for simply my friend’s birthday. Instead she handed us the wrong checks back and said “bye” and left the room. She spoke very condescending to a few of us which made it very uncomfortable for our party. We were simply just trying to celebrate our friend’s birthday. But just expressing misunderstanding and miscommunication seemed to not be allowed according to our server. The way it was all handled was immature and came with a lot of attitude.
Many issues with food, some people received food either overcooked or under. Two people received the wrong dishes. Majority of us still do or have worked in the service industry. And for the expectation we had coming in we were certainly disappointed. Will not be going back and will recommend not doing so to others.
A major highlight was the exceptional service from our server, Monte. He was particularly impressive in his care and attention to my partner’s serious gluten allergy, making us feel completely comfortable and well-cared for. Thank you, Monte!
The cocktails were exceptional, and the overall ambiance was delightful.
We’ll definitely recommend this brasserie to our friends and family. We look forward to returning and hope Monte will be our server again, though we’re confident any server will provide equally excellent service.
It was a great combination over the rice.
Hope you also enjoy this cozy historical and spacious place with their remarkable foods.
I recommend reservations ahead of your visit even during weekdays
Amber took good care of us. Celebrating my birthday . She helped with food choices and made sure we were done in plenty of time for the concert.
I believe we were the first to dine this evening. It was a Tuesday evening.
I had the Sea Bass. She helped me decide how to have it cooked. It was perfection. Pan seared and blackened with 2 sauces on the side. It literally melted in my mouth!
My partner ordered the scallops with a side of shrimp. The scallops were perfect. Delicious.
Neither of us cared for the shrimp. They were tough and chewy. Overcooked. We didn’t complain. At the concert the couple sitting next to us ended up asking if we had shrimp there. We told her about our experience. She said she always tells people to not order the shrimp. It’s always overcooked….now you know what we didn’t!
The oyster selections were plentiful. If you have NOT had then with caviar you 100% should get those! They were amazing. Skip the ones in the bloody mary mix. Neither of us cared for those compared to the price.
