The duck breast of the day was perfectly cooked — tender, juicy, and paired with a rich, smooth sauce. The duck confit was crispy on the outside and meltingly soft inside, exactly how a classic confit should be.
The steak tartare was fresh, well-seasoned, and balanced, with the egg yolk adding a silky texture. The escargots were fragrant and garlicky, and the fresh oysters were incredibly clean and briny.
Service was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable — the staff made us feel genuinely welcome and well looked after.
A fantastic spot for anyone who loves real French cuisine. We’ll definitely be back!
We had a delightful dinner at Chez Olivier. The restaurant was unexpectedly busy for a Sunday evening, but we still received attentive, friendly service and the food was of the highest quality. We came without a reservation and took seats at the bar, which we really enjoyed. We had the beetroot salad, salmon, and beef pie—everything was divine. They also have a great selection of French wines. We would happily return. Thank you!
Second visit though was a bit disapointing. Overall, the experience at our table was good. We were four French guests celebrating a special occasion.
Entrées were very enjoyable: the Soupe à l’Oignon, Gambas au Pernod, and Moules were all well executed. Desserts were a unanimous highlight—the Trio du Chef was outstanding and truly delicious.
Mains were more mixed. Two guests ordered the fish of the day (Barramundi) and were very happy with it. The other two chose duck. Unfortunately, the Canard à l’Orange was overcooked, and the in-house duck confit was disappointing—dry and not quite the confit we are used to.
Overall, most guests were happy, but the duck dishes let the meal down slightly. Service, however, was excellent throughout.
Our lovely French waitress, with her charming accent, added a touch of Parisian magic. A truly enchanting slice of Paris in Melbourne.
