Hands down the best Italian spot in town. The food was incredible and the service was lightning fast. The whole place has a great, authentic Italian feel. But the best part? The owner overheard us mentioning it was my wife’s birthday and brought out this beautiful, fancy dessert for her. It made her night! If you’re looking for great food and a place that treats you right, go here. Highly recommend!

We’ve been here 3 times now. It’s small, family run, clean, cozy, not too loud, and due to mandatory reservations it’s never too crowded. Seated near the door it was a little chilly. Food is good, not showstopper, but when they get it right it’s tasty. This time my dining partner’s eggplant dish came out not hot, the Caesar salad oddly has grocery store shredded mozzarella and parmigiana that is not reggiano. Service is friendly but sporadic. The wine glasses were topped off, but dishes were so slow to be cleared we ended up piling them up. The octopus special seemed a little under, no char, underseasoned, and slightly chewy with just a basalmic glaze. The complimentary bruschetta was very good, nice wines by the glass and bottles are reasonably priced. My pork special pasta with primitivo sauce was well prepared. It’s really a 3.5 which of course I cannot select. Sometimes a 3 and sometimes a 4, far too many things off to be a 5.

The food is amazingly good! The pastas are cooked as they should be – the texture is exactly what we had in Italy. Everything from appetizer to desert. The wine recommendation is excellent. We will definitely come back.

Bruschetta is fabulous and complimentary. We ordered the burratta with strawberries, pomegranate, and almonds on top of arugula and balsamic glaze. Fabulous. Also gnocchi, carbonara, parpadelle with sausage, pizza Regina, pizza al pesto, and pasta pescatore (the pasta was kinda “meh” but seafood was super fresh and flavorful). The personal pizzas are huge and absolutely delicious. I would go back for the pizzas.

Made a reservation for lunch, we had to wait to be seated which wasn’t initially a big deal but for the price and the quality of the food it didn’t help my experience. The complementary bruschetta and the focaccia bread were our favorite parts. My mom’s pasta was uber al dente and some of the food wasn’t hot. I had high expectations for this place based on reviews and whenever I ordered delivery from there it was just okay and by dining in I was hoping it would be better. Now I would go back because it may have been an off day but we’ll see.

As authentic as it gets in this heck of the woods! The owner even passed me a hint for picked eggplants! Cozy space, amazing service, phenomenal food. We celebrated a BD here.

Mamma Lena Trattoria Napoletana is an authentic Italian restaurant located in a shopping center in Germantown, MD. They share a parking lot with other businesses. If you want to dine in, you must make a reservation a couple weeks in advance.

When we arrived, our table was waiting for us. We were warmly welcomed by Gianni and his attentive team, setting a relaxed and inviting tone for the evening.

We kicked off dinner with a round of Venetian Aperol Spritz and shared a few appetizers family-style. The Bianca White Pizza consisted of a garlic and olive oil based pizza, topped with mozzarella cheese, and garnished with fresh basil. The Bruschetta All’Italiana consisted of toasted bread topped with diced fresh tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and basil. The Bruschetta All’Italiana was definitely a table favorite. The Fiori Di Zucca consisted of pastella flour battered and fried zucchini flowers stuffed with mozzarella cheese. It was more deep fried than I had liked.

For entrées, we ordered from the evening’s specials: My father opted for the Carbonara, customized with a lighter touch of black pepper. My mother and husband both enjoyed the Chicken Marsala–one with sautéed eggplant and zucchini, the other paired with spaghetti. My brother raved about his Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, which he said tasted just as good as the one we had in Italy. My sister-in-law and I both chose the Ravioli alla Aragosta con Vongole. While rich and flavorful, I personally would have preferred it without the red chili flakes.

For dessert, we were tempted by their variety of flavored tiramisu (banana and pistachio among them!) but landed on two classic homemade tiramisus to share between the six of us–deliciously satisfying.

Although they were out of the Carpaccio di Pesce Spada that night, it gives us a reason to return!

So happy to have found this place! Authentic food that is truly delicious. The owners are so much fun to chat with… in italiano, naturalmente.
The first time I went, I had their homemade pasta with gorgonzola and pear; the next time I tried the red wine tagliatelle with boar sausage. The pistachio cheesecake is to die for. Some very nice wines, by the glass or bottle.
For starters they bring you bruschetta, on the house; we also shared an order of calamari… they were perfect.
Next time, I want to try one of the very tempting pizzas.
Grazie, Mamma Lena.
Today is 01-31 … try the pesto pizza: yummy!! I had the “tagliolini con le vongole” special… excellent. All of the pasta is cooked to perfection.
Dessert this time was a chocolate-hazelnut pyramid that (almost) made me forget that I had hoped for the pistachio cheesecake.
Arrivederci a presto!

I ordered online and have no idea what the service or atmosphere is like, but I’ll assume the best and gave those 5 stars. The pizza we ordered though, as dry as the Sahara. I ordered a white sauce pizza and it was just cheese and bread. The toppings were top notch, and I really wanted to like it but the lack of sauce left me disappointed.
