Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant in Platteville has quickly become one of my go-to spots whenever I’m craving real, flavorful Mexican food without the long wait. The tacos al pastor are easily the star of the show — perfectly seasoned, juicy, and packed with that classic sweet-and-savory flavor that makes al pastor so addictive. You can tell the meat is cooked right, not dry, not greasy — just done the way it’s supposed to be.
One thing that always stands out here is the consistency. The service is fast every single time, even when they’re busy, and the staff are friendly, welcoming, and actually seem to care that you enjoy your meal. No attitude, no rushing you out the door — just good people doing a great job.
The food overall is excellent. Fresh ingredients, generous portions, and everything comes out hot and tasting like it should. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick bite or sitting down for a full meal, Los Amigos delivers dependable quality without breaking the bank.
If you’re in Platteville and want great tacos al pastor, fast service, and a place that feels comfortable and welcoming, this spot is absolutely worth checking out. Solid food, solid people, and a restaurant that clearly takes pride in what they do.

Their website says “Best fajitas in town,” and it’s true! My husband and I split the combo fajitas with an extra order of flour tortillas, and the mozzarella-topped fajitas were hot, flavorful, and hit the spot! I have to mention how our experience even started deliciously with their fresh chips and salsa. This place’s salsa had a little kick, which is so refreshing since many places keep it really mild. Their queso was a beautiful compliment to the chips, and our server was very friendly. Service was very quick, and we received coupons at the end! The pricing is very reasonable for how much food we got. I’m so happy and would love the privilege of dining here again sometime. ¡Gracias, Los Amigos!

They have $2 taco Thursdays… And it’s so delicious! These aren’t the little tacos… They’re the regular sized tortillas. I’ve had the steak and carnitas tacos and both are very tender, juicy, and flavorful. If I lived around here I’d be dining here every weekend…or 3-4 times a week… My coworker had a burrito the other day and it was huge. He said it was so good.

Ordered dinner for 3 people and 2 of the orders were incorrect. Asked for no onions on a burrito, recieved a metric ton of onions. Ordered Enchiladas Rancheras and didn’t receive rice or beans. Not just a small oversight; it changes the entire meal. Sloppy and careless. Gotta do better. Staff was very polite.

I’ve often wondered if some mexican restaurants, especially in rural places, make different food for the gringos. I travel and eat at mexican places as a hobby. I’ve been to literally hundreds of mexican restaurants. I study mexican cuisine and can actually make better mexican food at home than the average restaurant serves. I was in town for a job and scouting for a great mexican place. It hit the right checkmarks: Some employees with poor english. Clearly independently owned and operated by actual mexicans. There was an attached mexican grocery store which is almost a guarantee of authentic mexican food. If the local mexicans shop from this business to cook for themselves, surely this place dishes up some authentic delicious food, right? Right?!?

Wrong. It’s always a warning of what’s to come when they bring out some chips and salsa. The warning signs were there. Canned tomato sauce with a sprinkling of cilantro. Medium-low quality chips. You can’t complain about free, but still, it was a heads up of what the food is going to be like. Lame.

I’ve had many similar experiences in more rural locations. I live in close to Chicago. Awesome mexican food is everywhere. The only ones that are actually lame, are the ones run by gringos. I wonder if a place like this takes a look at me, takes my order, and goes back to the cook and says: One Fajita burrito and make it tasteless and spiceless. I just can’t believe the people that work there cook this way for themselves. I’m really starting to believe that some restaurants, especially in rural locations where people maybe have less exposure to ethnic cusine, make it different for the locals. Special gringo versions.

I was in a different rural location a couple weeks ago. Ordered chicken tacos. By default, they came out on crunchy shells with lettuce, tomato and shredded cheddar. Classic tacos your mom would make. There was hardly any place to eat, so I went back the next day. Ordered chicken tacos with soft corn tortillas and cilantro and onoins. Got a totally different animal, and the brought out a couple of freshly made salsas. I’m like… They were profiling me yesterday.

Anyhow, if you are looking for some tasteless food just like your midwestern mom used to make when you were a kid, this is an excellent place to go.

Edit: I looked at the other reviews, and to their credit, it does look like the owners do look at the reviews and take them seriously. Some people love it here. They must be doing something right. This is based on just one persons experience on a single visit, but I stand by what I said. The cheese was also on the edge of going bad. Not quite there, but it was on the edge. I’m very familiar with the taste. I’ll probably be back in town in a month and maybe I’ll give it another try.

Los Amigos has turned into a staple of our family. While I frequently enjoy a business lunch with great specials, prices and atmosphere, my adult children really enjoy coming home and having authentic Mexican. My kids add, that of all the locations they visit, in Milwaukee or Madison, Los Amigos is their favorite place to get their Mexican cuisine!

The food was delicious!! I had the fajitas combo which comes with chix steak and shrimp. It was so steamy hot and juicy. They had a pool table that for 1 dollar in quarters we could play game before our food came. It was a fantastic night. Cant wait go again!!
