Just across from the Taos slopes, this is an authentic “made from scratch” restaurant featuring excellent European cuisine. They take great care with the ingredients and have innovative specials (duck confit pasta, ahi tuna salade nicoise) and of course, bratwurst. The ginger carrot soup with Pepitos and fresh cream was truly delicious. Friendly service and a great sense of history from the pictures (and stories) here. Cozy!

Absolutely first rate outstanding food and service. We sat by the open kitchen and it was enjoyable seeing how caring these professionals prepared such great food in a relatively small kitchen. I had the dragon bowl with ahi and wow it was excellent! My wife and daughters meals were excellent as well. Definitely the best meal we had during our stay by far. Der Garten will be top on my list again when in TSV.

I ate lunch at the Der Garten and I must say it was quite delicious. I had the Stuffy sandwich and I must say I will be back! Everything on the menu looked absolutely scrumptious and well priced.
This beautiful dog friendly lunch spot is located right across from Cids mountain market. While enjoying the beautiful views from this lovely spot you can learn all about the history of the Thunderbird lodge. One of the first Bavarian hotels located at the Ski Valley filled with rich history. This is a must stop for lunch and a little slice of Bavaria.

Beautiful location – we sat, drank a lovely German reisling, ate a locally sourced veggie hummus plate and decompressed. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. One of the original Taos locations serving lunch and dinner. Give it a shot. You won’t regret it – Asia is wonderful, knowledgeable and so helpful.

This low key local spot is a must have for a cozy relaxing atmosphere. It’s a beautiful laid back spot with a toasty fireplace, great signature cocktails, and tasty eats. It’s a must on a Sunday afternoon when relaxing after hitting the mountain.

Der Garten deserves a minimum of Michelin Bib Gourmand.
The innovation that Chef Asia uses in seemingly traditional cultural dishes or a simple burrata salad is second to few starred restaurants I’ve been to. We went two nights in a row and got to sample most of the carefully crafted menu and specials. Fittingly, the menu offerings primarily belong to Europe and Bavaria, but also included things like a masterful Dahl showing prowess in all types of cooking.
The ambiance is also incredibly unique, the restaurant being in a converted residential house. Our second meal there we ate on suede armchairs and coffee table in front of a huge, roaring fireplace. And thats what it feels like, eating at home.
But what I loved most about the place was Chef Asia personally bringing all of her food out to us, describing the details of each dish. As an aspiring chef myself, she even sat down with us and we talked about the technique and theory behind all of her dishes – super meaningful and a memory I’ll never forget. She is truly talented and proud of what she brings to every table – and should be!
This is the best restaurant in northern New Mexico, and you’d have to work to find a place this good in Santa Fe or ABQ.
They also serve draft German beer by the liter… a reason to go by itself!

Cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. We ate there last night and had the most enjoyable evening. We have eaten in many places in Taos and each has their own unique characteristics. Der Garten takes top spot though. Everything served under the watchful eye of executive chef Asia. The food was delicious and the love and care put into the creations very evident. Service was relaxed and amiable without being intrusive and atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Christof and Asia – thank you for such a wonderful and authentic experience!

Loved this place! So close to the slopes and the food is great. Love how cozy it is too. Service was great even though they were very busy. We got a couple of the figalicious sandwiches, the green chili stew, and a kids Nutella sandwich, it was all delicious! Will definitely be back the next time we’re in TSV.

SOME OF THE BEST FOOD IVE EVER TASTED.
Der Garten was one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. We showed up with no reservation, and the staff was extremely accommodating on a full Saturday. The atmosphere is curated like a cozy ski cabin frozen in some time in the 1980s. The food was some of the best myself and my significant other have ever had. I will be back for sure the next time I am in Taos Ski Valley – it’s some of the best food I’ve ever had anywhere and an experience unlike any other.
