We had such an amazing experience tonight, and it was all thanks to Carly and the team! Carly was absolutely awesome from start to finish. She was attentive, friendly, and made us feel so welcomed the entire night. She truly went above and beyond to make our evening special, checking in at just the right times and making sure everything was perfect.

The drinks were fantastic and made perfectly, and the food was absolutely delicious. Everything came out fresh and full of flavor. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the kitchen and the bar.

A huge thank you as well to Aiden for being on top of everything all night!

We couldn’t have asked for a better night. We’ll definitely be back!

We had a wonderful experience at Salt and Char. Our server, Carly, along with her co-server Tyler, provided absolutely amazing service. Carly was incredibly personable and knowledgeable. She did a great job describing the wines, daily specials, and food, and her recommendations were spot on.

We ordered the T-bone steak with several sides, and everything was delicious. Overall, the experience was fantastic from start to finish. I gave 4 stars only because the steak didn’t come out as hot as expected, though we were told they allow it to rest, which I understand can be a matter of personal preference.

That aside, the service truly stood out, and we would absolutely return. Carly and Tyler made the night memorable.

Our second visit on our second trip to Saratoga for horse races, seated on the veranda, wonderful atmosphere, warm bread and salted butter, wonderful cocktails & wine, delicious dishes. Waitress was a little off. Cod fritters were a little under cooked. Rest of wait staff was spot on.

We ordered the Delmonico steak, medium, it was cooked to perfection. Loved it! Also the Ahi tuna dish. Wine was great. Our wonderful server, Carly, was so professional, sweet, attentive, friendly, top top notch. We are picky about steakhouses, and were very impressed.

This was unfortunately, one of the most disappointing dinners for me. I made reservations for a birthday dinner for my fiancé.

We started at the bar for a drink. The cocktails were interesting… The themes were cool, but they were very complex in flavor and ingredients that just missed the mark for us. And unfortunately, the foam on my cocktail had fermented and was very unpleasant.. Sweetly our bartender, removed it from our bill.

They were able to see us right at our reservation time. Everyone was very kind and welcoming. The restaurant was comfortably decorated, including a fireplace. but that’s unfortunately where the good ends for me.

I ordered the tuna tartar. It was so fishy and unpleasant couldn’t eat it. I love tuna tartar, I eat it often and I have never had one that I’ve sent back before this. Again, the server was kind and offered to switch it out with a different appetizer. I didn’t like that one much either. The beef carpaccio’s texture was off and I didn’t care for the way. It was prepared. The oranges gave it a sour taste that I don’t typically want when eating raw beef.
For my entrée, I ordered the shrimp dish, it was severely overcooked. When we asked for the bill, it took over 30 minutes to get. I might have been able to turn a cheek if this was a more casual restaurant. When coming to a steakhouse like this, I expect exceptional food and service. I was just very let down by the whole experience.

Went here for the first time and had pretty high expectations. The atmosphere and service were a 5 star. I can’t rate this place 5 stars as a whole because our steaks weren’t cooked Medium rare as we ordered them. They both came out medium to almost medium well. To some this might not be a big deal, but when you’re paying those prices ($65 per steak) I expect it to be cooked how I ordered it. No sides come with your steak, you have to order them separately. Despite our steaks being over cooked they still did taste really good. Our drinks were cold and delicious, as were our appetizer (Calamari), sides, and the bread they give you is truly fantastic. For the 2 of us our check was $240 plus we tipped our server $50. Definitely not a budget place by any means. I don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon, but maybe someday. I think there’s better places with better food for a more affordable price. They do have outside seating which looked really nice. No parking lot, so you’ll have to find a spot & walk to Broadway. Giving 4 stars since there’s no option for half stars.

Many of the menu items at Salt & Char are the restaurant’s take on “classics”. However, the changes are certainly not improvements.

First the positive. The ambiance at the restaurant was nice. Our server was nice though seemed that he was trying to be one of those memorable servers and falling short of that mark considerably… The bread that they ship in was amazing and the coarse salted butter was a nice touch. The asparagus was delicious. The drinks were decent and the espresso martini was very good.

Now the negative. Let me first state that we were one of the first reservations in for the evening so the restaurant was NOT CROWDED. We ordered one of the more expensive dishes in the menu, the aged porterhouse for 2. I ordered it medium rare. When the steak came out after a very long time it was very over cooked. A 30+ ounce aged porterhouse that is your specialty should come out perfect EVERY TIME. At best this steak was medium well, more like well done with a bit of pink by the bone in the inside. The server dropped off the plate and gave a few comments on how he hoped we would enjoy our meal and went to leave. I caught him and refused the steak. There is no way I’m paying over $100 for a massively overcooked steak. They remade the steak and after a long wait AGAIN put an appropriately cooked streak in front of us. The steak was ok. Flavor was decent but the steak was NOT trimmed well and had a few lines of gristle running through it. I can certainly do BETTER at home even with grocery store meat. 1/5

As to the other parts of the meal…

Wedge salad was a “deconstructed wedge salad” with a pile of mostly limp radicchio that was very bitter. The bacon in the salad was the only bright point, I did not eat the salad. 1/5

Onion soup potato gratin was a pureed potato that was very under salted, the onions on top were flavorful and perhaps meant to balance out the rest? But the whole dish was luke warm at best. 2/5

The fried rice dish had some nice mushrooms in it, but SALT holy SALT! SAVE SOME FOR THE POTATOES! 1/5

Now for dessert, we ordered the Samoa cheesecake and the chocolate crème brûlée! Ahhh… Finally something to look forward to… Nope. After over 30 minutes of waiting and our server going by our table at least 5 times we caught him and told him to keep the desert that we had to leave. -5/5 for sheer disappointment!

We spent over 3 hours at the restaurant for a table of 2! Our bill was over $300 with tip for a truly sub par experience.

Really wanna go for 2 stars to be nice. But, depending on the day you might get a 4 star dinner or a 1 star dinner. However, last night I feel like we flushed $400 down the toilet. For what this place charges, the quality, consistency, and service should be far better. It shouldn’t be a gamble every time you come in. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning.

I’ve been to this steakhouse several times, and the one thing I’ve learned is that it’s completely inconsistent. For the kind of prices they charge, you’d expect everything to be exceptional every single time, but that’s just not the case.

This last visit really sealed it for me. I ordered a $225 tomahawk and it was chewy and raw. Fine, mistakes happen. We sent it back to be cooked a little more. But five minutes later it came back looking exactly the same. No difference at all. At that price point, the kitchen should absolutely know how to cook a steak properly.

Then there was the bread situation. We were told the bread machine was broken, so no bread. We asked again when our steak came out and still were told no. But as we were leaving, we watched a newly seated table get fresh bread. That was just frustrating honestly.

What made it worse is that our server clearly saw we were unhappy, and didn’t make any effort to acknowledge it or try to make things right.
