Food was excellent! The egg rolls were the best I had in a long time! Chicken with mushrooms was delicious and the Shrimp with Chinese Vegetables was cooked perfectly! Can’t wait to order from them again and try different things, but will have to order the egg rolls again, they were that good!

I am a third generation Mei Mei patron. We have been coming here for well over 40 years (they opened in 1975). It was sold in 2021 but the new owners are very good. The old Mei Mei was perfect. It will take time to get as good as they were. The new Mei Mei is still among the very, very best Chinese restaurants in this entire part of the state. The fried rice, egg rolls, chicken and cashews and beef and broccoli is among my favorites. They are generous with their portions and very good with special requests. I miss the old Mei Mei, but I do not blame the new Mei Mei for not being exactly like the old one (like I said, it is just not possible in a 4-year time span). But they are on their way!

Easily some of the best Chinese food in the area, if not in all of New Jersey. My family and I go here as often as we can (which ends up actually being about once a month). Definitely get the salt and pepper shrimp, mei fun, beef chow fun, and the lobster with black bean sauce!

The taste and quality of the food have clearly declined. I am aware the restaurant changed ownership in 2021, but the food has changed yet again, leading me to believe there has been another shift in ownership or management. Whatever the cause, the current product is inconsistent and disappointing compared to prior standards.

Being a Rutgers alum, this place has not changed! When you walk in, it’s the sound of families speaking, friends chatting and the employees/owners checking on new and regular customers. This location is about 5 minutes from college Ave by car.

One thing out Chinese food is, not all restaurants that serve Chinese food is authentic! Well this is the place to be. The food is cooked with LOVE! The owners really enjoy ppl enjoying their food. The owners walk around and have little small talk which sets this place apart.

Now for the food. In todays cookie cutter Chinese restaurant chain environment this place really stands out. It is a family own led restaurant that’s been around since the seventies that has never compromised traditional recipes. Not only can you taste the quality of ingredients and care given to the Food, you can even breathe in, I mean taste, the wok hei lol! I mean you just can’t find that anymore. Husband’s favorite recipe is the king pao chicken. It has nice chunks of white meat chicken, with a very savory garlicky sauce with just the right spice. And I love picking out the perfectly cooked green onion chunks oh my goodness. I mean he doesn’t even eat vegetables, But I ordered the shrimp with peppers and tomatoes and he loved the flavor that the tomatoes added to the dish. He couldn’t stop eating them. My husband is a big guy and when he loves a place he loves a place! We visit every time we come home and for the last 10 years they always greet him with a very joyous smile and ask how our family is doing!

The hot oil might I add is perfect! Just the perfect flavor and not too spicy. Most restaurants we ask for soy sauce but the didnt give it a d we didnt need it!

The food tasted fresh and delicious and you get a good portion size! It’s a family business so they were all friendly. My wife ordered the shrimp fried rice I was surprised in the amount of shrimps it had. I had the General Tso’s chicken combo and it came with a huge eggroll.
You definitely get your money worth here, but only downside they don’t take credit cards.

A true gem, excellent Chinese food . All the dishes are fantastic, Crispy Thai shrimp and Squid with peanuts are out of this world. No need to travel far and wide to get great tasting Chinese food!

NEW OWNERSHIP… went downhill in my opinion. I ordered Pork with garlic sauce, and it is mostly breading with tiny strips of pork. The pork was tender, but the dish was so spicy I couldn’t eat it. Also, the water chestnuts so tiny, I couldn’t pick them up with my fork… can’t imagine using chop sticks. Also got the Chicken chow mein and chicken was stringy, obviously frozen, and the chinese vegetables seemed liked lettuce and onions!! No mushrooms in either dish. The pork had the HUGE black hot peppers. Egg drop soup was super salty and more broth than egg pieces. Will only order from here again if someone else pays for it.
