I love this place. I normally am here in spring and fall for lunch and sit outside in the gazebo. This is my first winter visit for breakfast. Build your own omelette and their own roasted coffee. Roasted right next to them. They are always so kind here. Warm fire, fantastic coffee and the best breakfast. You can’t beat that!

Used to be more peaceful to study here. Now people have discovered them. Best coffee in the area, freshly roasted next door. Highly recommend gluten free egg sandwich !

I hate that I have to write this, for the past 2 years I have come to the homestead almost once a week especially in the summer. I am a young mom with two young boys. They love the canal and catch turtles, tadpoles and frogs in the spring and summer, bird watch and enjoy walks on the towpath. we’ve met so many nice people along the canal and at the homestead. The owners are great and the coffee roaster owners are also super nice and people we’ve become quite friendly with over the years. everyone I have ever encountered has always had nothing but nice things to say about myself and my kids. We always buy breakfast or lunch or come in for treats and I am a huge fan of the coffee and always buy a bag for home. Until two days ago when we were there with friends and an employee was extremely rude and disrespectful towards myself and my children. My son whom is FOUR years old and just learning to stand up to go potty must of had an accident on the seat in the bathroom and forgot to flush. Ok he’s four understandable right? Well apparently for this lady it was a huge issue. She interrupted our lunch and said well more like screamed I quote “ one of the children pissed all over the bathroom! You need to go clean that up right now” Ok so I went there was a splash or pee on the seat. Again he’s four and had an accident. I cleaned it and walked back to the counter and as a mom felt I needed to speak up so I nicely said I cleaned it up but just so your aware my kid did not pee all over it was an accident on the seat he did not intentionally pee all over on purpose. And her response to me was and I quote “ well are you teaching your kid to even use the bathroom?” Which I felt very insulting and very disrespectful. Who in there right mind in a place of hospitality speaks that way. It’s disgusting if you ask me. So I told her yes I do thank you. And she continued to say and I quote “ I have no patience for your unruling children, your not welcome back here again” if this employee has no patience for a four year old having a bathroom accident that his mother cleaned up, she should not be working in the hospitality business. Or maybe get a job where no children are allowed if she doesn’t have the patience. In my two years of visiting the homestead not one other employee or person has ever had anything but nice things to say about my two boys and myself. So this really rocked me. And I felt extremely uncomfortable, and hurt by this whole experience. I don’t feel as if my children and I should of had this experience and I will also be making an appointment to come speak with the owner personally about this experience. I don’t think my family should feel uncomfortable visiting our canal to play and have a nice time because of an unruly employee, the experience made me sick to my stomach actually. I am not one to ever complain or bad review someone but this was completely unacceptable service.
Jessica.

Upper Black Eddy gem! Had an amazing sandwich and lemonade with friendly service on a cold, rainy day. Free and fast Wifi, and a warm atmosphere full of locals who seem to love the place. Highly recommend!

Highly recommend. The nitro cold brew was perfect. The employees were very polite and asked if I wanted some room for milk and what not. I also recommend the pastries. I had a cinnamon roll and it was really good. Perfect spot for a lunch as there are plenty of sandwich options. There is a retail section also, great local spot and will be back! So many coffees to choose from.

I actually can not speak to the shop itself, only to the coffee…which is by far the best coffee I’ve had in years. My friends and I happened to find bags (boxes) of Homestead in a shop down the road and decided to give them a try. It was so good we made a spcial trip to the Homestead shop for more but we missed them by 10 minutes!!!!! And proceeded to drive all around PA trying to find someone who sold bags of the Sumatra and the decaf. Sadly we came up short but we will drive from nyc to this shop just for this coffee again.
I contemplated not writing this review bc I dont want my coffee to get sold out again, but my better side decided not to gatekeep this amazing brew!

Charming coffee house with cozy interior. Varied menu, delicious selection of coffees roasted on premises. The sitting area outside overlooks the canal. A resident goose dozes contentedly by the canal, butterflies flit about the beautiful array of flowers, an occasional hummingbird visits… wonderful spot to linger over coffee.
