From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by a kind waitress who made us feel right at home. There was a motherly quality to her service that instantly put us at ease—especially as a group of road-weary construction workers. Once we settled in, she took our drink orders, and I opted for horchata.
As I started exploring the menu, I was relieved to see that they offered more than just chicken. And that brings me to my first suggestion: the restaurant name could use a slight tweak to reflect the variety of dishes available. Something like “El Ranchito del Pollo… y Más” would subtly hint at the broader selection.
With more options at hand, I ordered a barbacoa burrito. Now, barbacoa is a gamble in the U.S.—it’s often mistaken for American BBQ, but the two are worlds apart. Fortunately, this burrito did not disappoint. It was packed with flavor, just as it should be. As a backup, I also ordered beef flautas, but I didn’t need a backup after all—I ended up eating everything. The burrito was fantastic, and the flautas were equally impressive, with tender, well-seasoned meat.
Beyond the food, the service stood out. Our group requested several different hot sauces, and the staff happily brought them out without hesitation. That kind of attention to detail and hospitality goes a long way.
Now, I do have one minor critique—something that might not bother everyone but is worth mentioning. The restroom setup was well thought out, with a small niche providing some discretion for those entering and exiting. However, there were no paper towels available, only air dryers. Since the door opens inward, you have to touch the handle to exit, and let’s be honest—most men don’t wash their hands. That means anyone who does is immediately undoing their efforts. A simple fix would be to provide paper towels, giving customers a hygienic way to open the door.
Overall, my experience here was great. The food was solid, the service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was welcoming. And to the staff—I apologize for the mess we left behind. It wasn’t intentional; we had been working hard all week on the road and were just thrilled to sit down for a proper meal. I’ll definitely be back.
I had the chiles rellanos meal with avocados (super fresh) on side and a few coronas and the meal was excellent. I would recommend this place if you live locally and if traveling make sure to eat here it won’t disappoint.
