⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding Experience from Door to Table
Half Way House Restaurant in North Chester, Virginia is the kind of place that reminds you what real hospitality feels like.
From the moment you open the door, you’re welcomed into a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels like home. The cozy fireplace sets the tone—comfortable, classic, and relaxing. It’s not flashy. It’s genuine. And that matters.
The service was friendly, attentive, and professional without ever feeling rushed. You’re treated like a guest, not a number.
Now let’s talk about the food—because wow. Everything was cooked perfectly, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. No shortcuts. No gimmicks. Just honest, well-prepared meals done right.
This place delivers on every level: atmosphere, service, and food. If you’re looking for a spot that values tradition, quality, and comfort, this is it.
I’ll absolutely be back—and I highly recommend it to anyone passing through or living nearby.

I don’t know what I was expecting when I thought that I was going to come to this place several years ago. However , my first trip , 1000% you should try. I had the specialty of the house and the whole dish was masterfully made. Going to have to try another dish this 1 was so good.

Staff is very kind & knowledgeable. This is around a $100 dinner depending. The Crab dip appetizer is mildly spicy but, the crab shines through as it should. I went for the Prime Rib. Absolutely on point. Compliments to the kitchen staff ! By the way the twice cooked potato is it’s own treat. Very few places make thier tea stand out. This is one of them. An enjoyable quiet dinner out. Please call ahead for reservations. My regards to The Halfway House.

A quiet candlelight dinner in a historic setting with excellent food and drink. Tried to stay away from the cinnamon and honey glazed breadrolls but glad we could not resist. The wife and I out celebrating our 53rd wedding anniversary both decided on the angus sirloin filets. The entrees came with twice baked potatoes and asperagus. Delisious! I had a glass of smooth Lincoln Ridge whiskey made right here in Chesterfield County, VA. Our waitress Heather was awesome with her thoughtfullness, attention, and eagerness to relay the history of this wonderfull setting where the forefathers of our great country dined and stayed. Thanked the server and gave a shout to the cook as he stepped out the back kitchen when we were leaving. All of them made our visit a wonderfull experience. Thank you to all and a special thanks to the Young Family for saving this historic treasure.

Shared a birthday dinner here and it was fabulous! The atmosphere and food were both exquisite. I definitely recommend the crab cakes – delightfully meaty, and filling. Homemade rolls delicious. Asparagus and crab soup also very delicious!
We went early on a Wednesday night which was nice, until a large party came in a bit after, which made conversation more difficult and the atmosphere less appealing as they flocked in and were standing around. (Good people watching, though, if you enjoy that).
Staff also was wonderful with celebrating my birthday! (No corny singing, but very sweet).
Take a view of the upstairs!

My wife has wanted to go here ever since we moved to Virginia 2 years ago. So glad we finally went. If you love history and great food this place is fabulous. The building is awesome and you really feel like you are stepping back in time as you dine in the old brick built inn with candle light all around. The food and service is fantastic. More traditional fare like steaks, beef, lamb, chicken and fish. I had the prime rib which was probably the size of my plate but very tender. The crab cake appetizer is one of the best I have had and the apple crisp for dessert was done to perfection. My wife had a petite filet for dinner and fried artichokes for appetizer. We both loved this place and will definitely be back. It would definitely be magical to visit over the winter holidays. Bravo!

The Halfway House restaurant is one of my favorite restaurants in Richmond. The food is exquisite, the staff friendly, professional and knowledgeable. It is candlelit and romantic. Everything stays consistent. My husband and I ordered the seafood platter and our crab cake was left off by accident We let them know and immediately we were brought our crab cake with many many apologies. The portions are large and the service excellent. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Halfway House
