My husband and I went here to eat a meal called the Happy Family. The waiter told us they only served that at dinner time but the meal was listed on the menu he gave us. He offered to serve us this meal anyway. They served my husband his egg drop soup but did not serve me the wonton soup I ordered. They did, however, serve me my spring rolls. I reminded the other person serving that I hadn’t been served my soup yet. She went back and brought my soup out but it was egg drop and not wonton soup. She confirmed what wonton soup I wanted (I ordered a cup) and brought me a bowl. Then my husband and I realized we never received our drinks (water and hot tea). We let the waiter know and he brought it right away. The Happy Family was not anything to call home about. The food was very expensive and we’ll go to other Chinese food restaurants but not this one.

Ive never left a review before but definitely needed to this time.
(Also forgive the Pho picture, it was so good I ate basically all of it before even thinking about leaving a review)

The reopened “Coal Mine Dragon” (now the Pho
Toi) is hands down the best asian food place in Colorado Springs.

BEFORE the reopening of the Coal Mine Dragon to the Pho menu, I decided to not eat there ever again.

I’m so glad I went back after the new management took over. I had the fried rice, which was some of the best I’ve had, and the Pho Bo Vien(the Pho with meatballs) and it was all amazing.
The to-go containers for the Pho are partitioned out between the hots/colds/and soup, it’s all(including the fried chicken) made on site and so good.

The service was amazing, the man behind the counter was super understanding about me wandering the restaurant with my two month old when he was getting restless. He even swapped stories with me as I was rocking my little one.

The wait time was basically nothing compared to how it used to be, the food is so much better, the menu is all new but if you want the old menu they do have a legacy menu.

If you ate at CMD before and didn’t like it, go there now, it’s my new favorite spot in all of colorado springs.

I just ordered takeout from there. They’re hot. Mustard is not hot mustard it taste like something you buy at the store, not traditional Chinese hot mustard
They have new owners now the prices went up in the quality of the food certainly went down. I will definitely not be returning.

I was excited to see the sign for Coal Mine Dragon and asked whether it was still the Coal Mine Dragon. They said it is still Coal Mine Dragon. I didn’t ask further and maybe I should have.
We had the sesame chicken, three meats in some kind of sauce, crab wontons, and spring rolls. Since it was lunchtime, it came with egg drop soup. We also ordered a Dr. Pepper and a mango papaya boba smoothie.
The sesame chicken is my friend’s go to dish at the Coal Mine Dragon on 8th Street but she said this time it didn’t taste right but it was all right. I did not care for the Three Meat whatever it’s called at all. I was only able to eat a few bites before I decided I’d have to take it home and try again later when my appetite came back. The egg drop soup was tasteless and lukewarm. The smoothie was bland but the boba was nicely cooked. The spring rolls were large and decent. The crab wontons were possibly the best I’ve ever had though.
The service was adequate but a bit infrequent. He was attentive when he was there and was professional.
The menu was pricey compared to other similar restaurants.
Overall, I was disappointed in my experience. Everything lacked flavor and was just very mid which made me sad because I love the food at Coal Mine Dragon on 8th Street which made it clear to me that ownership had changed at this location.

This place is amazing. They have now combined to make Pho and it’s absolutely delicious. I ate every bite and drank every drop of pho. I highly recommend this place. Prices are good as well. Come support this local restaurant. 11/10. I will definitly be coming back. I would’ve posted a picture of the full bowls but it was too good to wait to take pictures.

MY ORIGINAL REVIEW WAS 5 STARS FOR COALMINE DRAGON, SINCE MY LAST REVIEW THE RESTAURANT WAS PURCHASED AND IT’S NOW A VIETNAMESE RESTAURANT SO I CHANGED MY RATING TO 1 STAR AFTER GOING TO ANOTHER COALMINE DRAGON ON 8TH STREET AND THE QUALITY OF FOOD IS TOTALLY LOWER THAN THIS ONE.

*The Restaurant has a New Staff and possibly new management, the staff is very respectful and the food has improved so much that it’s worth updating my review. I watched the new employees constantly cleaning and when people departed they immediately went to clean the table and the carpeting. Great improvement overall and I highly recommend this place “
In comparison to restaurants in the area, you can still get a good lunch meal for under $15 dollars. (Dinner meal is more expensive than lunch, for affordability lunch is preferable)
This restaurant is excellent and I highly recommend it.

So our favorite Chinese food place is closed on Sundays. So we order here for delivery to give it a go. Food did come in the specified time, very nice delivery driver. Overall it is decent and it eats. We got 3 quick lunchs, so entrée with choice of rice, choice of soup, a spring roll and a crab cheese wonton. We also got fried dumplings and paper wrapped chicken.

Nice staff although I did hear the server complaining about a low tip he received from another table. Food was sub par. Bland and flavorless. Egg rolls had cabbage that was so tough we couldn’t eat them.
