We came across an article listing some of the top barbecue spots in the U.S., and since we were spending time in King George County, we decided to have lunch at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit.
Overall, it was fine. The presentation was great, the portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable. We ordered the three-meat platter, four sides (beans, fries, mashed potatoes, and green beans) and their pecan pie. The sides were all okay, nothing particularly memorable but decent.
The barbecued meats were a bit disappointing, though. Both the brisket and the ribs were dry and under-seasoned. The pulled pork was better: solid, but not outstanding.
I’d have it again if I were nearby, but I wouldn’t put it among the better barbecue joints I’ve tried.

Dickey’s catered buffet was delivered and setup on time. All of the food was delicious, and many folks said they loved the cole slaw. It was a blessing to know that the food for our event was taken care of. Roger was kind and professional. We have used Dickey’s King George catering for years and we are never disappointed. We will definitely come back!

Loved this Location!! My husband and I were driving through on our way back home and wanted good BBQ. I had the Polish sausage, chicken breast, and ribs. (3 meat platter) I also had Mac and cheese, coke slaw, and green beans. Everything was great!! I even got a second helping of sausage to go for my dad I loved it so much.
One last thing. The people who work here, (the guy and girl) fixing the food orders/taking orders were wonderful. The lady was in a great mood and talked to everyone like they were her friend. Loved her! Build one in Virginia Beach.

I was picking up my online order and the lady at the register was incredibly kind and helpful! I had my toddler with me and I was carrying him the whole time and she asked if I wanted help with anything. She found to-go drink carriers for me when they originally thought they didn’t have any. When I left and was getting into my car, I ended up spilling my bag of food while trying tk get my toddler in his seat. She came out to make sure everything was OK and offered to replace whatever spilled. I assured her everything was ok because they packaged everything up very well so nothing actually spilled! It was just such a nice gesture to an already incredibly stressful morning for me.

Great place to get some BBQ really loved it when I was stationed in Dahlgren. Definitely worth the visit. The staff is very kind as well. Took the time to explain the menu and take to us. Great time going there a few times before I get shipped back out. I’ll definitely come back if I find myself back at Dahlgren some day!

There are a few good places to eat barbecue in and around Dahlgren, VA, but Dickey’s BBQ Pit is one of the best. The selections and the menu are great, and the portions are very good. The atmosphere in the restaurant is always positive and the place is always clean. This is by far one of my favorite barbecue places in this local Dahlgren area and I recommend it to anyone passing through or visiting the area.

Barbecue chicken and turkey were good, the sauces are tasty too. Great service too. I brought some brisket burnt ends home for the next day and they were great even without sauce. Back again and great again.

Love this place. Been to other Dickey’s in other states. This place was on a main road I was traveling thru. People were friendly and the food was just as great as the others. They have their own sauces that we love. I ordered 3 of the loaded baked potatos and the 2 meat dinner with double okra. Figured the dinner was good to pick at on the way home and the potatoes for dinner the next couple nights.. the potatoes have a smoke flavor, and the pulled pork on top makes it awesome. Love the brisket on top too but pork is my family favorite.
