It’s not ridiculously busy, but not dead either. The tables appear clean from a distance, but when you sit down, it’s apparent that the employees rarely tend to the dining room. Our order was taken rather quickly, and the food came at a similar pace.
The food quality left something to be desired. Biting into the bread of my toasted Italiano sandwich was an experience I’d liken to breaching the hull of the Titanic. It took an iceberg of effort to get through the crust and sever a mouthful of sandwich from the main body (which, mind you, was rather small for $7.50). The bacon mac n’ cheese was satisfactory, but let’s be honest: it’s very difficult to mess up mac n’ cheese.
Now would also be a good time to mention the fact that upon one visit, my grandmother’s wallet was stolen from this location. It’s not the kind of thing I’d expect to happen just anywhere in Trussville.
If you want to spend your days squandering your paycheck on mediocre food paired with questionably average service, and you like to top it all off by having your recently emptied wallet misappropriated, Panera Bread Trussville is an extremely effective candidate wherein to accomplish such goals.
The last time we were both my wife and I got half a salad and half a sandwich. We both ordered the Harvest Medley Salad, mine with chicken and hers without. I ordered a Chipotle Chicken Avo Melt for my half sandwich while my wife ordered the Ciabatta Cheesesteak. I ordered a soft drink while my wife had water. We shared a blueberry muffin for dessert.
The salad was very good, but it would have been better if it hadn’t been made with spring mix, which I referred to as “rabbit food” and my wife calls it “yard stuff”. We both thought our sandwiches were very good.
I would’ve read a Panera bread a five except for the price we paid $39 and change including a small tip. In my book, that’s a bit much to pay for lunch for two people. But then again the cost at restaurants has gone crazy since the pandemic.
